Phil Sutcliffe reviewed: Fused Glass Lanterns with Crafts in the Valley

"My granddaughter and I have just completed the fused glass lantern course with Melanie and we both loved every minute of it. This is our first glass fusing course, but it won’t be our last with Melanie. The workshop had a very relaxed atmosphere and Melanie is a great tutor, who explains everything very clearly and patiently. Tea and proper coffee was available (and cake and biscuits) were available throughout the course. Will be booking our next course as soon as I have finished this review. Thank you Melanie for the wonderful introduction to glass fusing."

Crafts in the Valley responded:

"Hello Phil, Many thanks for your lovely review. it was great having you and your granddaughter on the class. I look forward to seeing you both again for more fused glass magic! Best wishes, Melanie"

Shah reviewed: Axe making course

"It was a brilliant experience at Highfield Forge, Andy was welcoming, friendly and knowledgable. He and Dave gave clear guidance, instructions and support without doing it for you; really made you feel accomplished. Forged an axe that I've already used to chop logs for the fire. Highly recommend the experience."

Plus I have an amazing macrame hanging pot now in my home, I feel so proud every time I look at it!"

Deb Pitman reviewed: Make a Mosaic Flower Pot

"The course was a delight from start to finish. I received clear, comprehensive joining information. Being encouraged to consider my design prior to the course was so useful because, on the day, I could then concentrate on absorbing information. Step by step Tracey walked us through the process of making mosaic. We had the opportunity to create a small piece of work, to experience shaping different types of tile, before moving on to the plant pot. The pace of the day was just perfect. Information flowed. Tracey's studio space is naturally conducive to exploring the medium with an array of mosaic material on offer. Safe ways of working were all covered. Each 'workstation' was laid out with everything we'd need. I didn't complete my piece on the day, but was sent home with all the materials I'd need to successful finish (grout, adhesive, tiles). Tracey generously encourages finding joy with the material. It was a beautiful, memorable, creative day."

Sue & Peter Weatherall reviewed: Blacksmithing Introduction courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"This day's experience of blacksmithing was gifted to us both and we can honestly say it was excellent. Adrian and Andy were very encouraging, patient and professional throughout and really friendly and welcoming. Debbie's food was delicious with best cheesecake we've tasted! We both left with our dragon coat racks and snail key rings, sooty faces and aching muscles wanting to go back again as soon as we can. Highly recommended for beginners wanting to learn a new craft and a good day out!"

Joy Osborne reviewed: Willow weaving for home and garden

"Cathy is an excellent tutor and gave really good direction for each step of our willow weaving project for the morning. The day started off well with a lovely warm welcome and this made us feel so very much at home. Not only did we get to choose what we'd like to make, there were many opportunities to customise our offerings. I made a fish on a rod and my partner made a Catalan tension platter. Cathy was on hand at each stage of our work ready to demonstrate and advise, with just the right balance of help and autonomy. Her knowledge of willow and skill of her craft were very much apparent and she is a very agreeable and interesting host. We were also treated to a range of hot and cold beverages and delicious homemade cake. I'd highly recommend booking on one of these workshops. Due to Covid there were numerous date changes, but all the admin for this was dealt with most efficiently and I was kept well informed."

More than Willow responded:

"Thank you Joy it was a pleasure to meet and work with you both."

Antony Harvey reviewed: Forge a Knife- Blacksmithing and Knifemaking Experience Day

"This was a great course. Jon is a knowledgeable and patient tutor, and makes sure you get stuck in to all of the processes, whilst understanding how and why they work. A lot goes into forging a knife, and the result is something durable and usable, and made by you. I'd highly recommend this, and I'll probably go back to make something else too."

Theo reviewed: Bladesmithing experience day

"This was an absolutely fantastic day for me. I never got to do much of the tough handcrafted sort of things at school and generally am rather a techy person with a techy job. I try to experience new things and was gifted this experience by my girlfriend and her famiy. Steve was great at taking you through the stages, guiding you and explaining as you went from a fresh cut piece of steel to something that looks great, cuts great and you can be proud to know you made it! Lots of knowledge, very welcoming, I could recommend this to anyone and i'm also thinking of booking the chef knife course with my girlfriend as I think she would love it too."

White Tiger Knives responded:

"Hi Theo Thank you very much for your review and I'm really glad that you enjoyed your day so much with me. Regardless of your skill set, with a little patience and a guiding hand you were more that up for the task in creating your own forged knife. It would be a pleasure to welcome you and your girlfriend into the shop at some point in the future on the two day Chef's knife course. Kind regards Steve"

Yann reviewed: Stonecarving Weekend, Gloucestershire Cotswolds

"Great week-end in a beautiful and relaxing environment. We first got explained the different tools and stones then got to test those tools to get a feel for it. We used Cotswold stone which is quite soft and made stone carving very enjoyable. Then we started our own little project and went to complete it over the end of the 2 day course. Sebastian is very knowledgeable and helped us using the right techniques for our project which means we all went home with a very respectable first piece of stone carving!"

LINDA COX reviewed: Beginners Calligraphy at Larkswold (2.30-5.30)

"Larkswold, in the beautiful Cotswolds, is in a very nicely appointed marquee with ample parking. We were welcomed and well looked after throughout the afternoon, with plenty of refreshments and delicious home-made cakes. There were 4 of us learning calligraphy at one large table and about the same number at a different table learning a different craft. Our instructor, Martie was superb, demonstrating each step before we then went and practiced on our own and with her guidance checking we were doing it right. We were provided with everything we needed, and had opportunity to purchase anything further before we left. With a glass of bubbly at the end and no one in a hurry to leave, it made it a very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you, I can't think of a nicer way to learn a new skill, with very amicable people, lovely surroundings, and first-rate tuition. Definitely recommend it."

Larkswold responded:

"Thankyou Linda, We appreciate your kind feedback and hope to see you again soon. Kindest regards Melinda"
