Tessa reviewed: Creative metalwork and welding, scrap metal sculpture.

"Amazing and super fun! I went for two days in a row which I found very useful, as on the second day I then knew how the different equipment worked and had more of an idea how to achieve my projects. It was great fun going hone the evening after day 1 and madly planning out what I wanted for day 2! Everyone else was there for 1 day and all made the most amazing and diverse creations - I have so many other things I want to go back and make now. Izzy and Felix were so knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic and encouraging. They both guided and challenged, and through their expertise I think we all achieved more than we thought we were capable of. I totally recommend the one day course but I warn you, it’s addictive!!"

WTF Workshops responded:

"Haha, Tessa you have the welding bug now! I can see it! It would be so great to have you back, you bring so my much energy and positivity with you. Your guys were just brilliant!"

Judith Wilkin reviewed: Creative Machine Stitching

"I attended a workshop on Sunday 6 June with my friend Judith. The workshop was run by Helen Moyes. Helen is a talented lady and had some lovely exhibits on show which I took inspiration from. The actual workshop was very disappointing. There was no structure to it and I didn't know what was planned for the day. There was a lot of talking but no action plan or organisation. We did abit of painting but the equipment was not good. Some of the paints did not work. The plastic apron fell apart and there was no sink or water to wash our hands. There was sanitising gel. We were given plastic gloves. We did just over an hour of sewing but I was hoping for more. The cake was delicious. This workshop did not offer value for money at £65. I will give this one star. Carol"

Helen Moyes Designs responded:

"Thanks Carol, for giving feedback. I always seek to improve my creative service. We discussed your aims before the workshop and I prepared a large range of skin-coloured threads for your chosen portrait project. We discussed stabiliser and sketching out your portrait. You made a great start on this. I suggested ways to show light and shadow. You chose two "new to you" materials for a second project: a Lutradur lantern using Markel sticks. We discussed completing this before you went to your third project: a doodle-stitched botanical picture based on one of my pieces of work. I'm so sorry not all the many paints worked – I would have disposed of them had this been brought to my attention at the time. As you wore protective gloves, I hadn't realised you needed to wash your hands after painting but could have provided a bowl of soapy water if the gel, wipes, & paper towels weren’t sufficient. When the apron ripped, I offered to replace it. I am so glad you enjoyed the selection of cakes."

Tim Bishop reviewed: Beginners Epoxy Resin Workshop

"This course was really excellent. I have just complete the course today 12 June and it really exceeded my expectations. Richard has a great way of getting people to think about the situation and come up with really pertinent questions. The pace was really measured and I was very pleased that it covered in detail the mold construction and sealing plus mold release and how to calculate the volume of resin to prepare. I had already booked on the part 2 of this course and I am very please I have. I can’t wait. I probably could have spent the rest of the day there just asking questions as the whole subject was fascinating. Thank you Richard and I look forward to part 2."

Robert Taylor-Steward reviewed: Basic automata and mechanical toy making

"From the first stage of exchanging emails and booking, Stef was so very helpful. On the day, we met at a pre-arranged location where we could park our car and it was just two or three minutes walk to the studios where Stef has his workshop. There were toilets and a small kitchen area which were all clean and functional. Stef’s workshop was clean, tidy and well laid out, with good quality tools and equipment. Stef ran us through a safety briefing and had clean safety equipment for us to use (although we had our own). Stef is a great guy, friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very talented. He demonstrated the techniques and use of the tools clearly and then let us do the work on our own toys. I had used woodworking tools before but my wife was a complete beginner. With Stef’s guidance she picked up the skills quickly, likening use of the band saw to guiding fabric through a sewing machine. We cut all the pieces for our automata from scratch, no pre-cut kit pieces here. It was good quality wood, not MDF too. It was a full days work but we left very proud of our finished pieces. A big thank you to Stef for a great class. We’ve done around 10 different workshop type classes and this was the best. Would definitely recommend to both complete beginners and those with some woodworking skills."

Penlan Crafts responded:

"Dear Rob and Lou, thank you very much for your kind words! It was really a pleasure to have you in my workshop. Your passion, hard work and commitment paid off, your automata are beautifully made! All the very best"

Jess Cole reviewed: DELETE-Business Course in Traditional & Modern Upholstery (Taster Day)

"I booked this course as I have always been interested in upholstery. I absolutely loved the day and came away feeling so inspired. Before the course even started, Sarah was on hand to help and answer any queries I had. For my session there were only four of us so Sarah was able to provide constant help and advice throughout the day. Sarah was so knowledgeable and experienced. No matter how simple my questions were, she never make me feel inadequate or silly! Sarah created a really relaxing environment which made me feel at ease while also learning a fabulous new skill. I would highly recommend the taster session for anyone who is interested."

Jess Hartley reviewed: Glass blowing course - taster

"Fantastic day! Steve and Chris were really engaging and very informative with their teachings. We did a half day course and we made 3 different vases and 2 paperweights. We're currently still waiting for our glass to arrive as it then takes a day to settle in the kiln. We very much enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend this team if you're looking to try out glass blowing. It's very warm in the rooms so when you visit make sure to wear something cool. Additionally you will need to wipe clean soapy water on your leg when moulding the glass and therefore don't wear anything too precious or can be damaged by water! If you're not familiar with the area I would recommend Ring o'Bells Inn to stay at, it's only a 7 minute drive away. The area hasn't got the greatest Internet signal in the world so if you're using the satnav to get there just be aware. We used post code BS40 6HW. Parking on site is free, walk past the antiques shop and handmade glass is the last building on the right :) Hope we can visit again soon and maybe create a few more masterpieces!"

Chew Valley HandMade Glass responded:

"Thank you so much for your comments Jess, we are so glad you enjoyed your time with us. Your glass is winging its way to you. Regards The team at Chew valley handmade glass"
