Mat reviewed: An introduction to blacksmithing

"What an amazing experience! Ian the Blacksmith was very welcoming and friendly. The course was relaxed, laidback and Ian is extrememly knowledgeable and skilful in his craft and teaching it. Every aspect was explained to me and various techniques were tought to me to achieve the same results. This meant I was able to find a method which suited me when making my own coat hooks! I highly recommend this course, thanks Ian, top job ! Mat"

The day is a great opportunity to connect better with yourself, and learn from and with others. I'd had a bit of a creative block before attending, but the creative exercises and meditation were great, and I am already looking to do them again at home. I would highly recommend."

Trish Barnes reviewed: Blacksmithing, bladesmithing and metal craft

"From the moment I walked in the door the learning began with experienced anecdotal tales to help reinforce the do’s and don’ts within the forge. Nigel is a little like a waterfall, a force of nature spilling forth all of his experience for others to benefit from. I walked away incredibly fulfilled, proud of what I had achieved and working out how I was going to manage to arrange another day in the future. It is absolutely worth every penny."

"Really had a fabulous day with Jill, I knew nothing about fused glass and by the end of the day I have taken on board all the skills I have been shown, it’s been such a great experience and so absorbing and relaxing. Will definitely do another workshop in the near future Thanks you so much Jill for you time and sharing your knowledge I have really loved the day"

Helen Ure reviewed: Gelli Plate Experimental Monoprinting.

"Had a fantastic day at this workshop experimenting (playing) with Gelli plate monoprinting. Fiona's teaching enabled this first timer to create some pieces that she is very pleased with. Fiona works at a pace to suit and is ready to answer questions. The studio is peaceful and very well stocked. During the day there were delicious cakes with tea or coffee and a fantastic lunch overlooking the garden. This workshop provided me with a day away from a busy life - I am not so good at relaxing by doing nothing and this workshop provided a relaxing activity. The workshop was totally absorbing and tapped into my rarely used creativity. The time flew by. I plan to book again with Fiona and develop my skills in this interesting approach to printing. I highly recommend Fiona and this workshop."

Fiona Setchell Artist Tutor responded:

"Thank you Helen. I had a great day too, your enthusiasm was just brilliant and I loved the series of prints that you created. I will be running a follow on course that I will send you details about and this will be available to book through Craftcourses shortly. I look forward to seeing you again for another fun and relaxing workshop day."

Barry reviewed: Woodturning for beginners

"From the initial booking Stuart was extremely helpful and even provided my partner with a voucher that she could print and give to me on xmas day, which was a very nice touch. On arriving, Stuart was extremely welcoming and interested in my aims for the day, which helped tailor the day to my needs. After a wee chat and a tour of the machinery and tools we got stuck into the making. My confidence grew in leaps and bounds with Stuarts feedback as I tackled the various tools and techniques (some of which definitely require much more practice). The day was very relaxing and informative, and I could not fault Stuart on his teaching and patience. I was over the moon with the pieces I made (with a bit of help), and could not wait to show them off to family and friends when I got back. I am now on the hunt for a lathe and look forward to learning more about this fantastic craft. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in wood turning or looking to learn new skills or develop existing ones. Thanks for a great day!"

The Scottish Woodturner responded:

"Thanks Barry. Glad you enjoyed the day. I'm sure that with all the enthusiasm you have you will do well with your new lathe and master the spindle gouge. All the best. Stuart."

Liz Mulley reviewed: Beginners Pottery Day Course

"What a fantastic day! Highly recommend whether you have done pottery throwing before or are a complete novice like me! I bought this course for my best friend's birthday because she does clay sculpting and always expressed an interest in throwing. I went along for the ride basically but I had so much fun! Mat is wonderful teacher and so easy to get on with. He adapts his teaching style to suit you and really makes you feel at ease (and oh the laughs!) I didnt expect to come away with much and I made 4 beautiful pieces! Thank you Mat, would do it all again in a heartbeat!"
