Natalie reviewed: Stone carving 1 day introduction course in East Yorkshire at Micklethwaite Studios

"With an interest in heritage crafts I have wanted to try stone carving for years. I had such a lovely day with Alan and Tracey chatting all things stone and crafts. Alan's knowledge and work is outstanding. He talked me through the basics of carving, explained the tools used and taught with enthusiam and lots of patience. The pieces and pictures displayed in the studio are inspirational and he was happy to talk me through these and answer all my questions about what he had worked on and how he got into carving. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount I was able to get done in a day and left enthused and wondering how I can turn my shed into somewhere to try carving in my own time. Brilliant value, super interesting and certainly something I would look to do again in the future!"

Micklethwaite Studios responded:

"Thank you Natalie for your positive and thoughtful review of your day with us. We really enjoyed teaching you, and your little green man progressed really beautifully. We always think that our workshops have been a real success if people go away with the enthusiasm to carry on carving stone, so go ahead and turn that shed into your carving studio! We hope to see you again. Alan and Tracey "

They all looked very professional. Excellent value for money. Thank you, I will be back to attend more workshops in the future x"

"Richard was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. As a novice I was mainly interested in learning what was possible with very basic equipment at home, but for those with greater ambitions, Richard also showed us how to use the power hammers, hydraulic punches etc that allow heavier work to be undertaken with less effort. Very enjoyable and interesting. "

Mark Cook reviewed: Mig Welding For Beginners Introductory Day Course.

"I've done a few of these trade courses over the years but don't recall doing one where I felt I accomplished as much in a single day as I did here. Tony clearly knows his subject inside out but as an ex-college lecturer also knows how to present the material in a fun and interesting manner that even those of us who are not naturally practical can learn from. It's an intensive, wholly hands-on day and aside from a brief lunch break I was welding for the entire duration from the moment I arrived. But at the end I came out with skills that I never dreamed I would ever have. Amazing to thing that in the course of a single day you can go from complete novice to a confident welder and while I still have much to learn and consolidate, I now feel equipped to tackle a number of projects that I would never have considered before. Thank you Tony for all your help and for making this such a fun and rewarding day."

Newport Wrought Ironwork responded:

"Thank you Mark for spending the time on a great review it is very much appreciated. I am extremely happy that you enjoyed the course and left with confidence and knowledge that will help you at home in your workshop making and creating things from metal. Please feel free to contact me if you need any help or advice in the future. Regards Tony "

Hannah Gelder reviewed: DIY Workshop: Power Tools Course

"This course was brilliant. As a relative novice to DIY, I found it really reassuring that Richard was so informative and supportive in walking us through various different power tools. He took the time to find out all of our various needs and reasons for attending and then tailored his teaching and information to that. I left feeling super well informed and much more confident to take on more challenging projects at home. Thank you!"
