Lesley Breckenridge reviewed: Upholstery for Beginners Workshop - in Preston

"What an excellent day out, I haven’t enjoyed myself so much for an age! We started the day with all the ladies on the workshop chatting and introducing themselves and then Jo offered us wonderful home made scones with jam and cream or home made delicious chocolate cake, made by her mother. Tea and coffee and biscuits were freely available all day long for anyone to help themselves. Jo is very kind and patient and is an extremely talented lady. First things were a walk through of the process, showing us the stages of making the foot stool, which we then went back through step by step as we carried out construction of our amazing little foot stools. We painted/waxed our wooden feet and then started to layer up the foam and filling before we broke for lunch. As we worked through the steps, Jo would use each of our footstools as examples to show us what to do next. The delight we all felt when we finally got to put our fabric on the footstool was showing in all our faces. We were so proud of what we had made The ladies on the course all got on well and it was an excellent fun day. Jo gave us clear instruction and was only too happy to help anyone of us if we needed it. My footstool turned out so much better than I thought it would. I would certainly recommend this workshop for a great day out to meet new people and most importantly to meet Jo and take her instruction in making a gorgeous footstool. Anyone who isn’t sure should take this as a ā€˜definitely go do it’ Thank you Jo, for a fabulous day!"

The Boho Shed responded:

"Awww Lesley, what a really fantastic review, thank you so much. What a great day we had! And what a great bunch of ladies. You all made it so special. Thank you also for all your help throughout the day helping others and packing up etc. You lovely lady you! xxx"

Mark Turnbull reviewed: Fused Glass Candle Curve

"The glass course was a 50th birthday present for my wife and we loved it. The workshop is in a fabulous setting looking over the river, has plenty of space and all the materials necessary. Wendy was fab, with some great ideas and examples of previous work from which to gain inspiration. We made glass candle curves which Wendy was happy to arrange delivery upon completion. It was an extremely cold day, but Wendy provided plenty of hot drinks and biscuits to keep us going. All in all a great morning, thoroughly recommend it. "

Brad reviewed: Blacksmithing Beginners course - 1 to 1

"What a fantastic day! A full day and there's a lot to learn from the basic skills and techniques. During the day I learned not only How to do certain things but why and the reasons behind them along with some interesting History of the area and the craft. Iain was a great teacher and was there to guide and help if I needed but allowed me to do things semi-independent with his watchful eye. So I can comfortably say "I made this myself" ! Nothing was pre shaped and all from scratch. Again Iain was great conversation too, and very welcoming to people visiting the site and popping their heads in to watch us in action. As well as the experience, I also got two tangible, actual pieces that I had made and can be proud of! I was able to design my own piece too which was a great touch! Could not recommend enough."

Workshops in the Woods responded:

"Thanks for your lovely review Iain is amazing- Hope you enjoy showing your pieces off to friends and family many thanks Rachel"

Gillian Brayshaw reviewed: Private Tuition Upholstery

"I wanted to learn about the wood working aspect of furniture restoration. I have two cane chairs and wanted to understand how to renovate, prepare and finish them off before re caning. Katie was really accommodating with my request so booked a 1-2-1. I am pretty local but hadn’t been to Spode Works before. Katie is really enthusiastic about her craft and obviously knows her stuff. She made the session enjoyable and came away with everything I wanted to learn to start my creative journey. I really enjoyed meeting Katie and would highly recommend her as a teacher and therefore will be attending some more courses in the future. I will be keeping in touch as I feel I’ve met a kindred spirit I can learn from."

Meticulous Restoration responded:

"Thank you so much for your lovely review! It was great hosting you in the studio and I'm very glad you got all you needed from the session in to work on your two beautiful, bent wood chairs. I had a lovely morning and it would be fab to see you again working on more pieces in the workshop. "

Nigel reviewed: Enter the world of Pyrography with Bob Neill

"I was one of two attendees on this course 10 days ago. As a novice in pyrography it was a wonderful introduction and very good value for money. You have your own "workstation" ,and apart from a coffee break ( with Welsh cakes) and a lovely lunch prepared by Del, you are actively doing pyrography under Bob's expert supervision. All materials are included in the cost of the day , which flew by. I had a go with several types of wood and leather ,and there was the option to try using paper as well. My Granddaughter loved the key fob I made for her. This was a present from my wife. I can highly recommend it. I've ordered some leather pieces for my first project. I've "got the bug"....go and have a wonderfully rewarding day."

Burnt Offerings responded:

"Hi Nigel Many thanks for taking the trouble to write a review of your day with Del and myself. We always try and make our guests comfortable ,first with the welsh cakes and then a busy day burning a variety of items in order to give students a good taste of the subject. It's good to know you have now got the bug. Any further assistance required just get in touch or come for another day sometime. All the best and keep on burning Bob and Del"

Sarah Allsop reviewed: Life Casting for Beginners (Saturday) - Nottingham Trent University

"This is a fantastic course! We learnt so much during the day; all the various aspects of life casting. Richard was an excellent tutor; so engaging and knowledgeable. Andreea, his assistant for the day, was fantastic too, very helpful. I would recommend the course to anyone with an interest in life casting. There were 4 of us on the course, all with different backgrounds and aspirations, which was interesting too; gave you other ideas of what you might do with your new skills. I would point out 2 things for other potential students. 1) you're on your feet all day so bare that in mind and 2) you're best taking a packed lunch and maybe a flask of coffee, as the student cafe was closed when we were there and there wasn't much else nearby. "
