Sophie was an oracle of all things enamel. The staff were fabulous at preempting potential errors and on the odd occasion where we went wrong offered advice as to how to improve. Deirdre McQuade reviewed: Introduction to Wood Carving

"Completed this course today. It was a great introduction to whittling, relief work and carving. A super array of tools used and lovely to spend time using my hands and making something. I might never use my little butter knife but I am proud that I made it. Thanks so much…great day. "

Tess Crampton reviewed: Lamp glass bead making

"Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Technique is not difficult, but clearly experience and practice counts! Found it both mesmerising and soothing, making glass beads, with such pretty results, despite this being my very first try. Jade & Ian were welcoming and friendly, Jade quickly putting her three novice pupils entirely at ease."

Gwilym Hayes reviewed: Hardwood table furniture-making course with Finbarr Lucas

"An excellent course; learnt a bunch of new skills in a non- pressured environment. The end product is really nice and worth the cost of the course in its own right (purely down to Finbarr’s tutelage as opposed to any innate ability on my part). I really hope Finbarr will run a longer course in the near future so I can make an even bigger table! All in all a really enjoyable three days, and absolutely nothing I could think to change to make it better."

Finbarr Lucas responded:

"I’m delighted you enjoyed the course so much Gwilym. It was a pleasure to spend the three days with you and facilitate your table-making experience, and you made a really lovely little table which I trust has a prominent place at home! I’ll definitely be creating a longer course at some point, and I hope to see you back in the workshop when it’s up and running. "

Shan reviewed: Beginners Sewing - Day course - Get to know your sewing machine

"I could not run a sewing machine, used to always end up with such a tangled mess of thread in the mechanism of the machine that it just stopped running.. I did the beginner's day on 8th Feb and finished the day very proud of myself. It's so simple once Judi showed me what I did wrong, no more tangled mess! I felt great going home with a drawstring bag and a cushion cover. I have since altered blind slats and trousers legs at home, so pleased with myself!"

Karen Fiedler Booth reviewed: New for 2025 - Explore Intaglio Printing - Tetra Pak Printing in Derbyshire

"Liz had put together a perfect day for experimenting with a process which is entirely new to me, Tetra Pak printing. Her expert guidance throughout the day was so encouraging, with time too for drinks and biscuits throughout the day. Her studio is a fabulous and inspirational space, and Liz provided a generous supply of materials for the workshop. Tetra Paks made a very versatile printing process, and I was thrilled with the outcomes. I came away awash with ideas for printing at home. I will possibly never dispose of these cartons again when they can be put to use so beautifully, what a discovery! Liz’s friendly approach and willingness to share her knowledge and skills ensured that I learned a lot throughout the day, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute,"

Liz Wellby - Artist, Teacher & Maker responded:

"Hi Karen, Lovely to hear from you and I really appreciate your kind words about your day with me - it’s always a pleasure working with you. I’m so pleased that you’ve been inspired to carry on exploring Tetra Pak printing and that you’ve lots of ideas to start working with - you won’t regret it. Go hunt down a press and you’ll be off! Very best wishes Liz Wellby"
