Matt Sims reviewed: Furniture making course: Fundamentals of Furniture Making Part 1 (beginner)

"I had a great time on this 2 day course. Jarrad was our tutor; he was so passionate and knowledgeable. He got the balance just right between passing on his incredible knowledge and allowing us to find our own way with the project. He was always on hand to answer questions or help when needed and he kept it fun and interesting. I shared the course with four others from all different walks of life and it was great to get to know these guys too. I learnt so much and feel I have developed my skills a great deal. Can't wait to get back to the workshop! Thank you Aidan and Jarrad. "

Farnham School of Furniture Making Ltd responded:

"Thank you Matt! I'm glad you enjoyed your course with Jarrad and got so much out of the course. We're excited to welcoming you back at the Workshop. In the meantime, feel free to contact us if you have any other questions. Best wishes, Aidan "

Paul Holland reviewed: Bladesmithing Weekend

"Thoroughly recommend this course. Each stage is very well explained and demonstrated and you are given as much freedom when using the equipment as you require and are assisted when you ask or if the staff recognise you may need a little bit of assistance. Very friendly and very experienced team, that make sure you leave having had a great time and take home a great finished product."

Louise reviewed: Making an A4Stained Glass Panel (Hamsteels)

"Course was fantastic, but I'm almost hesitant to say so, in case it gets booked up and we can't get on it again! Venue was perfect too. Eddie was a great tutor, as evident by the fact that I came away with a finished stained glass panel in just one day, which I would never have thought possible beforehand. Would definitely recommend to others."

Simply Smallholding responded:

"How lovely of you to say these things. We try hard to make sure our delegates enjoy themselves. Thank you very much and hope you join us again."

Joanna reviewed: One day Bag making traditional leather workshop (tote bag / side bag)

"Fantastic workshop, providing all the materials and guidance you need to make a practical and beautiful product in just one day. The workshop was well-paced, giving everyone time to complete their work with a break at a nearby cafe. Kingsley is highly skilled at both leather work and teaching, balancing expert advice on how to make a bag that would suit what we each needed with carefully showcasing and explaining every step of the process. He tailored the workshop perfectly to everyone's skill levels, and I would highly recommend this course to anyone."

Phil Cleaver reviewed: Blacksmithing Introductory Workshop - One Day

"I have an interest and crafts especially metalwork so this course was a wonderful birthday present to receive. The course tutor John went through some basic smithing skills producing a range of small pieces of work. All these techniques combined into us making a toasting fork. The classes are only very small so you receive a high level of instruction and help as and when you need it. You have to respect the heat in general and especially around the hearth of the forge, equipment and metalwork itself. John was very good at going through all of the health and safety explaining the potential risks whilst being practical about how we would all work together safely. All in all, I found his way of teaching was informative, interesting and above all great fun. It's fair to say my 'level' of work was very basic but at no point did i feel anything but really happy with what i had achieved considering i had no previous experience whatsoever. I would recommend this course to anyone with an interest in blacksmithing and metal craft and already have to a couple of people i work with. A great day course for the beginner!"

Stanwick Lakes Art and Craft Courses responded:

"Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a wonderful review. We shall pass your comments onto the tutor. We are glad that you enjoyed the day. Best wishes, The Stanwick Lakes team."

Helen Walland reviewed: Scrappy Patchwork day at The Viking Loom York

"I enrolled for this course as over the Covid lock downs I had completely lost my interest in textiles. I needed a really interesting varied workshop to get me kick started. This course exceeded my expectations. The course tutor, Gillian, was very experienced and for me laid back. She kept us moving along so we would complete the task in the day we were there. All I have to do is bind my work. I am very pleased with what I did and would recommend this workshop to anyone looking to consolidate their bonda web, applique and free machining techniques. It would also be appropriate for beginners as Gillian is so supportive."

The Viking Loom Ltd responded:

"Oh helen . thanks so much for coming and so please you enjoyed your day . we absolutely love hosting Gillian with her lovely classes because of all the reasons you so eloquently say . look forward to seeing a photo of your finished work . best regards romy cordingley for viking loom ltd york . "

Katie Wainwright reviewed: School Maille Making Workshops

"Phil came in to facilitate a series of chainmaille workshops with a group of our Year 5 and 6 pupils. We were impressed by the interactive nature of the sessions and the way he linked the practical tasks with the Welsh Humanities AoLE. Pupil engagement was outstanding, including some pupils with ALN or behavioural difficulties. As a result of pupil feedback at the close of the course, we've asked Phil to return next academic year to work with our next cohort of pupils. We'd highly recommend the sessions to other schools looking to enhance their provision of Science and Tech D&T and Humanities Welsh history 'what matters' statements."

Phil Parkes Maille responded:

"Thank you so much Katie, I loved teaching the kids and it was great to see them really engaging with the making, and doing a great job at it. I'm looking forward to coming along next year!"

"Having thoroughly enjoyed a Jo's hare workshop previously, I was really looking forward to her new slate mosiac workshop and was not disappointed. It was a fab day trying something completely different and outside my comfort zone. Olivia reviewed: Woodwork Beginners workshop

"I was delighted to find this course on the internet and couldn’t wait to participate once I had booked it. Having made a few straightforward things before, I was keen to learn more especially about tool and screw selection and also mitre techniques. I learnt so much on the day and found out things I didn’t know I didn’t know! I’m off to get myself a flat carpenter’s pencil now that doesn’t roll off the table like my current ones do…. Sue is an excellent teacher, demonstrated each aspect and explained things very clearly. She obviously loves helping people learn and gain confidence in what they’re doing. The venue was perfect and the whole day made even better by a fabulous lunch and snacks and drinks throughout the day. Thank you so much 😊 "

Tuffett responded:

"Thank you Ollie. It was great to have you here and you did a wonderful job making your bird table. Such a tricky project with all those mitre joints!! Now you can tackle other projects with confidence. Happy sawing!! Sue"

The workshop is set in an open air museum and there is a very good cafe on site. Highly recommended."

"I thoroughly enjoyed my training day with Ted which flew by. Fortunately, it happened to be 1:1, so I benefited immensely as the course was personalised. By using 6 different bits of equipment it identified the kit I need at home, gave me confidence in approaching a job and utilising them effectively. Ted’s style of coaching is friendly, collaborative & easy going. He shared much of his experience & knowledge with tips, guidance & advice. The course was productive and left me wanting more, I’ll be back!"

Margaret Gwyer reviewed: Mother and Daughter Special One Day Workshop £75pp

"A fabulous day with my 11 year old learning about how to create a range of products. A great mix of hands-on making, discussion and testing out Allison's lovely products. It was a really special day and as I write this my daughter is making products. It has really inspired her (and me)! I would absolutely recommend the workshop. While it is an expensive day, we made a full range of products (Allison tailored this for us) and got a wealth of information so it was well worth it!!"
