Hans Grupping reviewed: Wood turning - One day course

"A great experience, Anna is very generous in sharing her knowledge of wood turning, patiently explaining the process, which tools to use when & how to set up the lathe. She quickly built my confidence on the lathe and let me work the wood, offering advice & guidance when needed. I had a great day, came home still buzzing & used my bowl straight away!"

Mark Jackson reviewed: Beginners hand tool woodworking

"Excellent and really enjoyable course. Andrew took us right back to basics which is what I was looking for. He took the time to show us how to do things, with tips and tricks to be more effective, and watched us doing it, with good feedback to improve. The point of the course wasn't to make something, but to learn how to make things with hand tools. Lovely venue too. Would highly recommend to beginners and those wanting to get back to basics. "

Carole reviewed: The First Cut - lino cutting for beginners & rusty printmakers

"Liz is an excellent tutor. I had never done lino cutting or printing before and she guided me through the process sharing her knowledge in a easy to understand way. Highly recommend this course for beginners and those a little rusty. Also the Amazing setting of her studio inspires your creativity! "

Liz Wellby - Artist, Teacher & Maker responded:

"Hi Carole, Thank you for letting me know about your day at The Slipper Studio - it’s much appreciated. It was lovely to meet and work with you, sharing your day with your sister and seeing your understanding and skills developing. I particularly liked your use of colour, as you became more confident with your skills. Lino cutting and printing are great techniques, giving you a structure to guide you through from an idea, to a completed print. They are also pretty addictive, so keep an eye out for the signs, which includes buying lots of coloured inks. Best wishes and happy printing Liz Wellby "

Ian Hudson reviewed: Blacksmithing Introduction courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"We had had a brilliant day hammering with a very friendly and welcoming team.. Lots of lovely food and drink were provided. Great instruction was provided on the course and we were expertly guided to produce two pretty smart Nordic Dragon coat racks and key rings. Ear plugs may be a good idea to block the sound of the hammering. All in all, a fantastic day!"

Christine Hartis Emms reviewed: The First Cut - lino cutting for beginners & rusty printmakers

"Absolutely Fabulous Day. Learnt sooooo much in a fantasticically built workshop with the expert tution and guidance from Liz (sure I may have tried her patience somewhatšŸ˜‚) Liz truly is one of those rare people who make you feel at ease and teases the best possible outcomes for your artwork out of you. Would highly recommend taking the opportunity to join one of her courses, I certainly will be in the future. (oh and Bert, the cat, is also very endearing even when indifferent to your charms)"

Liz Wellby - Artist, Teacher & Maker responded:

"Hi Christine, Good to hear from you and thanks for letting me know about your day at The Slipper Studio. I am sat with a big grin on my face and I too had a thoroughly lovely day with you and Carol; it’s always special when folks choose a workshop here and travel some distance for this to happen. It’s great to see a piece of work develop from an initial idea to a completed piece, seeing your enthusiasm for the process. There’s still so much that you can develop from your block and your prints. On behalf of Studio Cat, I apologise for his poor manners, but he might be excused as it’s his birthday! Best wishes Liz Wellby"

Everyone was so nice and the whole day had a really calm and relaxed atmosphere to it. By the end I had a lovely spoon and the confidence to go out and have a go by myself. Cannot recommend enough. Roger Boyles reviewed: Pole lathe turning taster day: bowl turning

"Fantastic course. Loved the woodland setting. Maurice and Jon were great hosts and very knowledgeable and helpful. We loved the pole lathes and both managed to make bowls that we are proud of. The promise of ā€œCamping available ā€œ might be better described as wild or rough camping available with little or no facilities. Otherwise we were very happy. Roger and Polly Boyles. "

Touch Wood responded:

"Thanks Roger and Polly, I’m glad you enjoyed your bowl turning day. I take note of your comments and will amend the description regarding camping so people know what to expect. Maurice "

Paul reviewed: Weave an alpaca scarf in a day

"A thoroughly enjoyable day. Great friendly and inspiring tuition. A full day of interest including producing a great scarf on good equipment in a purpose built workroom, followed by meeting the Alpacas which had provided the beautiful yarn that we worked on the looms. A very good lunch broke up the day very nicely and we all completed our scarves in the afternoon. Lots of support and advice through the day helped to inspire my wife and I to want to do more weaving. We ended with the opportunity to purchase some beautiful items made by Caroline with wool from the Alpacas. Thanks for a lovely day."

Clivewood Alpacas responded:

"Thank you. "
