NS reviewed: Making Handmade Recycled Paper for Beginners

"This was a really fun workshop. Learnt a new skill and it uses non-specialist material so I will try it again at home. Our group got on really well and the tutor was very aware of each person's progress and needs which was nice - she's also quite funny and made me laugh. The venue is also lovely. I didn't look at my phone once in 5 hours. Highly recommended!"

Southlands Arts Centre responded:

"Aah, that's so lovely for me to hear. Thank you so much taking the time to write a review. Not looking at your phone for five hours? What a lovely bonus. I am genuinely pleased you had a relaxing and fun time. You were a pleasure to teach. Beginners' Printmaking now? "

Sue Cook reviewed: Glass Fusing Fun Workshop

"I thoroughly enjoyed my day with Penny who was a great teacher but also allowed me to try out some ideas and designs of my own. It is a beautiful material to work with and I was rather pleased with how many pieces I made during the day. I certainly want to do some follow on sessions and already thinking what to make next! I highly recommend this course with Penny for all. "

Through the Arch - Fused Glass responded:

Sarah reviewed: Copper Mushroom Making workshop

"My son and I really enjoyed creating our copper mushrooms. Kami was very supportive and patient throughout and took time to show us how to use a variety of tools and techniques. A lot of what we used was recycled which was lovely to see. We were offered lots of drinks and snacks throughout and even some for the journey home. We went over the course time but Kami didn’t make us feel rushed at all and we were able to continue until we had done all the steps to complete our mushrooms. "

Mya Designs responded:

"Hi Sarah, thanks for coming such a long way to my workshop. You guys did tremendously well for beginners and really got into exploring textures and mark making. I'm so proud of your final pieces and hope you are too! So many other great courses on this website that you would enjoy if you have the time. Kami x"

Sharon reviewed: Introduction to Ethical Jewellery

"This course was so interesting! A bit of a journey going through the good, the bad and the ugly of gold and precious stone mining (luckily ending with positive and uplifting good stories!). The rest of the day was spent recycling our own unused jewellery into something new and beautiful. So pleased with the earrings that I made! Emily is a great teacher - knowledgeable, passionate and patient!"

"Thank you so much for the lovely review! What a wonderful day it was! Thank you for coming along; I'm so glad you had such a good time and that everyone came away with such beautiful pieces!"

Emily Mellor reviewed: 2 Day beginner stone carving course with Ben Russell

"I really loved the beginner stone carving course with Ben Russell. Having originally discovered Ben's work on show at on form at Asthall Manor a couple of years ago, I was really inspired by his work and naturally curious when I saw he was offering a course. I wasn't sure what to expect, and if I'm honest, was a little apprehensive, especially as I hadn't really made anything with my hands in a very, very long time. It was the perfect weekend, super relaxed, good company, coupled with great teaching skills and direction without it feeling too intimidating; and while the Dorset weather blew in and out, it only made it better as we had the comfort of Ben's yard to keep us protected while we worked alongside the elements. The whole experience was really enriching, igniting further creativity in me to explore, whatever the outcome. Sometimes you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and just have a go, I'm so pleased I did. I would recommend this course to anyone, plus it was especially inspiring working alongside Ben's work, which is just incredible - a testament to a true artist / sculptor, and very humbling to understand the level of patience, detail and skill that goes into stonework. Thanks Ben, I really hope to be back."

April Dickson reviewed: Couple's Rose forging day in Grassington

"oh we had so much fun for our ironiversary (6 years). We made the most beautiful rose that The Beast (of "beauty and" fame) would have been joyous over. Richard was clear and practical and a very nice chap. The forge is great. Just a brilliant day. Loved it. There were some chaps making beautiful knives while we were there....might put that on my Christmas list. "

Ellie reviewed: Woodcarving with Jason Thomson sculptural woodcarving with hand tools, eccentric whittling courses, Sheffield.

"It took a lot of searching online to find a course that covered the kind of hand woodcarving I wanted to learn and this one sounded perfect. I have previous experience whittling greenwood but I wanted to learn how to do relief carving. This course didn't disappoint! Jason is very knowledgeable and supportive and the class was small enough that everyone was able to receive pretty much 121 teaching. Jason guided us through techniques using different kinds of hand tools and stepped in occasionally to demonstrate how to 'read the wood' and make the best use of those tools. Although I didn't manage to finish my project on the day my new found knowledge has given me the confidence to finish it at home and go on to other projects. I'd definitely go back to Jason if other courses are available. "

Jason Thomson - Sculptor responded:

"It was great to work with you and to encourage you to pursue an ambitious piece. I like to see people carving personally challenging themes whether they’re experienced or beginners. Some people return over a series of all day sessions to tackle bigger or more complicated carvings. I’m open to considering more specialised courses in a variety of materials what would you like to do?"

Adam Carlson reviewed: Work of Iron | Innovation from the Anvil | Edinburgh | AXE FORGING

"Jack was very down to earth and friendly, and the experience felt very personalized. Even though a lot of the equipment and processes felt intimidating at first, Jack does a good job of explaining the use and purpose of each one; to the point that after the course I felt like I would be quite comfortable going into a forge and making something myself. Not only did I get to learn the techniques of the craft, but also the behind the scenes knowledge of the business itself. Overall a very useful, fun, and satisfying experience."

S. Richardson reviewed: Two day stone carving course at Middleton Hall

"Spent a really enjoyable - but intensive - couple of days carving a beautiful owl out of portland stone under the guidance of Miranda. The class was just the right size for Miranda to give each of us attention & assistance when we needed it & it was lovely to be working out in the fresh air (even under the gazebo when it was raining!). Middleton Hall is a gorgeous, quirky location - I'm looking forward to visiting just to take a proper look around."

TracyG reviewed: Wildlife photography

"A lovely way to spend the day, location was great. Nick is very knowledgable and I did manage to take my camera off auto setting, managing to change shutter speed. The day has given me confidence to try changing other settings when I work out how! I would have liked more than 3 minutes of 1:1 time, maybe Nick could allocate a time slot to spend with each participant? Unfortunately we missed both otter feedings and I am yet to receive the copy of the powerpoint presentation we were promised. "

Handmade Workshops Ltd responded:

"Hi Tracy Thank you for your feedback and we’re glad you enjoyed your day at the Wetlands Centre overall, but are sorry that you didn’t get enough one to one time with Nick and weren’t able to go to the second otter feeding after the class finished. We’ve spoken with him and the Powerpoint presentation was sent out as a link in his email to participants after the class. I'll resend it on an email to you and would be grateful if you could let me know if you receive it. Many thanks Ann "
