Full day pottery experience, Heskin Chorley

Hello & welcome. I'm Sharon, an experienced ceramic artist who, alongside a small staff team, runs fun & informal pottery sessions for those aged 18 years & over. This full day experience is a great introduction to the fabulous world of clay. It is suitable for beginners and is an ideal activity for special occasions, days out, bucket list activities or to just try something new. Throughout the day you will explore throwing on the Potters wheel, surface decoration and glazing. We start on the potters wheel. You will be shown and guided on how to make your first pot, then given time to practice by yourself. Our tutors will be near by and will give you as much or as little help as you need. Throwing takes time to master, it's about letting go, getting messy and having fun. Embrace the wonky & wobbly! Once we have made a couple of pots on the wheel, we move over to the workbench to add some surface decoration. You may want to add handles to make a cup or jug, or you may wish to change & alter the shape of your thrown & handmade pots. We have lots of cutters, moulds & stamps that can be used to make your pot personal & unique. Once you have made your creations, we stop for lunch (12.30-1.30pm). You can bring a packed lunch with you, or purchase lunch from any one of the various food outlets within the centre. The barn café next to us, has just won the best café in Lancashire 2025. The afternoon is spent relaxing and exploring glazing. You'll glaze one of our mugs that has been hand made in The Crafty Studio, using coloured underglazes. Sessions run Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday (1- 3.30pm). Up to 5 persons can attend the session. Bisque firing of your creations is included and will be ready for collection 2-3 weeks later. They can then be painted at home with acrylics, or you may wish to return to the studio to glaze your creations, this is an optional extra at a cost of £15pp. The Crafty Potter studio is based within Heskin shopping Village, a unique retail and leisure destination featuring over 40 unique shops and businesses. With free parking, we’re a perfect destination for you to make a great fun day out. The day makes a fabulous gift for all occasions.
