John Willcox reviewed: Woodturning in Devon with Colin Simpson

"What a fun day ! With no experience and little knowledge Colin was a fantastic teacher who immediately put you at ease with his relaxed style and great hospitality. The teaching was at a brilliant pace with patience and care which not only covered the techniques of woodturning but also stance and posture to establish good habits from the outset. To then come away with two pieces of finished work was truly exciting. All this with a great sense of humour made the day fly past in an instant so thank you Colin for a wonderful experience ??"

Devon Wood Crafts responded:

"Thank you John for this great review. I also enjoyed the day and your company. I am delighted that you enjoyed the day and, if I can help in the future, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Enjoy you turning. Colin"

Jennie Merriman reviewed: Birds on a wire - creating small sculptures in Derbyshire

"Thanks very much for the workshop on Saturday, I really enjoyed it. The day was very easy going without any pressure, yet we managed to produce three quality finished pieces which I now have hanging in my kitchen. It was good to have you working alongside us so you kept the chat going and were always there to help with problems and questions. An easy start to the day, coffee and a brief catch-up between the three of us followed by lots of chat, drinks and biscuits, yet it was easy to opt out when I needed to concentrate on the work at hand. A very good working pace which we were a part of setting. Excellent handouts to use after the weekend to construct new pieces and good product advice and contacts. It was just what I needed to get back into the process of working again in a supportive atmosphere. Sorry but I can’t think of anything that would have made the day any better for me. You are obviously a very experienced teacher and passed on your enthusiasm and enjoyment of the work. A super day"

Liz Wellby - Artist, Teacher & Maker responded:

"Hi Jennie, Thank you for telling me about your experience at The Slipper Studio; it was lovely working with you again and I’m really pleased that you found the day a supportive experience. I think there’s lots of potential for wire work to be be incorporated into your creative practice, so I look forward to see where it may take you. Very best wishes and happy making. Liz"

Rosalyn reviewed: Beginners DIY and Home Maintenance day course

"What a great day! I learnt so much in a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. David was a great teacher. So many handy hints packed into one day. Despite having dabbled in DIY for many years I learnt loads of new stuff. It was quite an intensive day. My only criticism would be it could be an hour longer and then it wouldn't feel like there was a rush to fit everything in by 4pm. I would definitely look at coming on another of your courses."

Shane Taylor reviewed: Introduction to leaded stained glass

"We had a wonderful day. My wife and I made 2 lovely pieces with Gen giving fantastic instruction and guidance. It was a craft we've never had a go at before and while some aspects were challenging, particularly putting it together like a jigsaw, it was wonderful to have the result that came from it. We can't wait to have a go ourselves and maybe even book another course with Gen. Thank you."

Wicked Gen Crafts responded:

"I had a really fun day teaching you the multiple techniques that go into making a leaded stained glass panel. It certainly makes you appreciate all the old medieval church windows made without the tools and PPE that we take for granted now! I look forward to seeing you both again for another fun and creative workshop."

Ailsa reviewed: Leather Bag Workshop - Two day Evancliffe Leathercraft Workshop

"I had a fantastic experience on this course. Wendy and Clive made me feel very welcome and their teaching style is second to none - they are patient but really focus on letting the student do the work, even the tricky bits. This means that not only do you leave the course with a really impressive end product (I have had countless compliments on my leather handbag), but you also leave with all the knowledge and a large part of the skills required to recreate the work yourself at home. This course is challenging for a complete beginner, but Wendy and Clive broke down all of the elements and none of the course felt rushed. You will learn how to cut leather for a pattern, mark it, hand stitch it and dye it. You can choose from a range of colours to dye your leather and there are different styles of bag to choose from. Wendy and Clive are also eco-conscious, and shared a lot of the knowledge they have on the industry and types of leather. I have attended workshops before (for other craft activities such as sewing) and this is by far the best course I have been on for (a) value for money, (b) the quality of the teaching and (c) for the end product (I wear my handmade bag with pride). I could not recommend this course more, its a great experience and you will learn so much."

Evancliffe Leathercraft responded:

"We are really pleased you enjoyed the bag workshop and that you are proud of the bag."

Sue Adams-McMillan reviewed: One day stained glass classes by Le Breton Traditional

"I received a one day stained glass workshop course as a gift, and what a wonderful present it was. The workshop is in a lovely setting and there is plenty of space, light and glass of all different colours and textures for you get crafty with. You get your own workspace with all the required equipment to make a design of your own, or if you are not that way inclined there are designs that Matt can offer you. You get to learn how to do traditional stained glass windows, or the copper foil method. I opted for the copper foil method and I wasn't disappointed. After hearing all the safety info, and the techniques needed to cut glass ( which was really relevant) we all learnt how to wrap our fingers in insulation tape, to prevent all those minuscule pieces of glass from cutting your finger tips to pieces. We then got going. Matt was a great tutor, he moved around and helped people with all the different parts involved in making our designs, with a good mix of humour and lots of positivity and motivation. I would highly recommend this course, it made the non-arty part of me into an artist. I didn't have to worry about mixing paints, how to use a paint brush correctly, or trying to make clay into that correct shape. I just cut glass and fitted it together. If there were any negatives they may be: 1) you got glass envy when you saw what other people managed to find in the racks and use in their designs, 2) you got design envy when you saw what other people came up with in their design, some of them were fabulous and I wish I thought of that, 3) once you were in the 'stained glass cutting and compiling zone' you became totally unaware of the concept of time. My design had to be modified as it had too many pieces, but I finished it and when I finally held it up to the sunshine, well it was awesome. Thanks Matt, for a lovely creative day."
