Clare reviewed: Forest School CPD - Rope Skills

"I had a great day and learnt many new knots and about different ropes and the best ones to use.. the woods where it was held was amazing… great instruction with a chance to try and practice. It was great as we were also asked if there was anything specific we wanted to learn and we were shown for our own setting.. I really enjoyed learning how to set up a zip line and how this can be adapted .. I will definitely be booking on another course run here.."

Carol Tierney reviewed: Weave a Country Basket

"This was such a lovely way to spend a day. Juliet is an excellent tutor and explained everything clearly with plenty of help available if it was needed. Most of the training was done by her demonstrating and explaining a step in the process and then us trying it. Really straightforward. Amazing to see the variety of different baskets we produced while all following the same steps - which goes to show that we all now have the skills to make a whole host of different baskets. The setting was a definite bonus, it was lovely to just be somewhere historic and beautiful surrounded by nice people and doing something new. Highly recommended."

Field Studies Council, Flatford Mill responded:

"Hi Carol, thank you so much for the kind review. It's so good to hear you enjoyed the Weave a Country Basket workshop. Even better that you all managed to create such different baskets. We hope you can visit us again soon and maybe try one of our other craft courses. Best wishes, Juliet and the Field Studies Council team."

James Worlledge reviewed: Axe Making Course - One Day Blacksmithing Experience

"I had a fantastic day. Tom was very knowledgeable and incredibly patient. It was fascinating to follow all the steps to make a finished article - I now understand why hand forged items at craft fairs appear so pricey! I made a wall hook as a practice piece to warm up, then spent the rest of the day making the axe. The final result was amazing. Really pleased."

Lin Wilton reviewed: Mosaics Taster near Exeter, Devon

"Denny was extremely helpful from fitting in an extra person very last minute to giving us instruction and advice to enable us as total beginners to complete pieces of work. We were given access to lots of materials and encouragement to learn to use new tools so each of us got the most out of this course. It was a fun and enjoyable way to spend a few hours and we all came away full of delicious cake and very pleased with our own works of art. Thank you Denny we will be back. Lin"

"Excellent enjoyable day on the beginners woodturning one to one course with Simon. So pleased with the tuition and his patience and to go home with a fantastic bowl and a sample piece and pictures of the day. So engaging was the course, I didn't notice the camera in some of the captures. Very friendly both Simon and Louise. Will be returning at a later date for the pottery with my wife."

Adele Dennis reviewed: Crochet Shawl

"I attended a workshop to create a crocheted shawl. It was a lovely afternoon with like minded ladies who help and encourage each other in a safe and welcoming environment. Natalie our tutor was amazing as always. The pattern was gorgeous and the yarn was sooooo squishy and lovely with great colours to choose from. I went away with more yarn and have made a second one. I would totally recommend CLPs workshops."

The explanations and demonstrations were very clear and precise and Sara was always available to help with the more tricky parts - nothing was too much trouble. All in all, I would highly recommend this workshop."

Allan Davies reviewed: Damascus Steel Knife forging

"My wife gave me this course as a Christmas present, and I thoroughly enjoyed it and am delighted with my knife. Alex is a very good teacher, concerned to make sure that everyone understands what is going on and is having a good time. He explained things very clearly, and was ready to jump in and help if anyone was getting behind or having trouble, but not taking over to the extent you ever felt it was no longer your piece overall - this is a difficult balance to strike and for me he got it right. Would definitely recommend this course, it's hard work but the results are sooo worth it"

Nia Morris reviewed: Women's Woodwork Workshop

"Oh my gosh! WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE! My mother, my sister and I went to do this as a Mother’s Day gift after my mother had mentioned she’d heard about courses you could do in woodworking near West Wales. My sister and I have absolutely zero idea on anything wood, anything tool, anything DYI and my mams experience is grab a saw and hope for the best haha. Straight away as soon as we turned up there was a great vibe. Jess is FANTASTIC. Super lovely, super friendly and put everyone at ease making us feel confident to be able to create something cool. Lots of choices of things to make, hard decision but don’t worry I’m sure we will be back again to make something different! It was a really easygoing atmosphere, could pop over to the kitchen to grab a cuppa whenever, and there was the added bonus of biccies and waffles provided by Jess too! I could go on and on, but all that needs to be said is IT'S AMAZING. So go and do it people! And while you’re at it, stay at the cottage that is there too which looks absolutely fabulous! Beautiful place, only 10 mins from the beach! "

Glanmedeni Ltd responded:

"It was an absolute pleasure to have you all on the course yesterday Nia - thank you so much for coming and for making it such a fun and enjoyable day! You all did so well with your projects, I can't wait to see what you make next time! xx"

Michelle reviewed: Furniture upcycling workshop - 1 day

"Really enjoyed the upcycle day with Hannah. She provided a warm welcome, explained the day and was on hand to help with ideas and suggestions. She was very patient. I would recommend taking a flat uncomplicated piece that is easy to sand. The sanding bit can be be a task in itself. It’s a great day. We got to see some pieces Hannah had worked on which are inspiring. "

Josh reviewed: Damascus Steel Knife forging

"I cannot describe how awesome this course was. Alex is a fantastic teacher and talked me through everything from start to finish. It was fast-paced and technical from the off which was tricky as a beginner but I wanted that going in. Not only did I get to make an awesome Damascus Knife, but Alex was able to help me make the best out of my errors through the day and I ended up producing a second blade too. I've learned buckets and have things I am proud to say I made. I would recommend the course to anyone looking for a challenge. I've already started recruiting people to do it again with. Thank you so much Hammer and Hound, you absolutely rock!"

"A really good well-paced day. Was able to make up 4 different books. Ali was informative and I felt able to check out instructions if unsure. We were a small group which I think lent itself to lots of interaction. We had a wide variety of resources to work with and I’ve come away buzzing with ideas and an entire kit!"

Stamps Away responded:

"Thank you! It was so lovely to meet you and I am so pleased that you are looking to make many more books."

Lucy reviewed: Blacksmithing experience day

"Truly one of the most exciting, fun, educational and inspiring courses I've ever done. Arian is an outstanding teacher, he gives you exactly the right mix of information, expert support and freedom to try and experiment and create. I was absolutely exhausted after the course but could not stop grinning. I've got the bug and really looking forward to signing up to learn more. Thank you for such a super, super experience. "

Arian's Forge responded:

"Hi Lucy, I’m glad that you enjoyed the day. Thank you for your hard work on your hook and knife, you have certainly got the aptitude for blacksmithing and I’m glad you’ve got the bug! Hope the blister heals quickly. You’re always welcome back if you want to have another bash. Best wishes, Arian. "

Pete Kelson reviewed: Tool sharpening

"Great course. Dave was presented with 5 'customers' whose interests in wood could not have been more varied. From mine, carving on a small scale, to someone else's, carpentry on a big scale. He helped us all by teaching how to sharpen planes, axes, carving knives, gouges, chisels and even hook knives. He taught me all that I needed to know about sharpening the tools I use as well as everybody else about what they use. He was happy for us to video him in his demonstrations. He showed us his technique but also other popular techniques. Great course. Great teacher. "

Workshops in the Woods responded:

"Thanks for the great review Pete. Glad you had a good day, great to meet you regards Dave !"
