Ann-Marie Wood reviewed: Two day (consecutive) stained glass starter course at North Norfolk Stained Glass

"Fantastic 2 day experience learning the basics of stained glass. Paul was a great teacher allowing you to learn and progress without pressure but knew when to offer support. I made a piece I thoroughly enjoyed making and will enjoy for long time to come. I'd advocate the course to anyone with an interest. You do not need to be artistic to enjoy this. Paul gave lovely welcome and hosted with fun anecdotes and interesting conversation throughout our 2 days. I want to do it all again."

Mary reviewed: Stonecarving Weekend, Gloucestershire Cotswolds

"Have just returned from a very enjoyable weekend course with Sebastian. I wasn’t at all sure what to expect - whether I would have the ability to create something or indeed strength required to carve stone. I needn’t have worried. Sebastian quickly explained the techniques and tools I would use and left me to familiarise myself with both. Before I knew it he had advised me on a piece of stone to work with and I was immersed in the carving. At the end of the first day in a lovely setting, both myself and the other members of the small group had made great progress towards our designs. The second day also flew by and I am very proud of the sculpture I have made. I would thoroughly recommend this course to everyone."

Marysia Penn reviewed: Natural dyeing course in Pembrokeshire

"Excellently, organised and informative course. We were encouraged to forage for materials, supplemented by tutor provided supplies. We experimented with a wide range of dye plants, mordants and supplementary treatments to produce yarn samples on wool, cotton, fleece and regenerated cotton. Eco-printing was yet more fun, creating direct contact print samples on paper, cotton, linen and wool. All techniques were supported by explanatory notes, discussion and references. Not to mention the homemade cake, tea and coffee! THANK YOU."

Susan Martin responded:

"Thank you Marysia. Glad you enjoyed the course and thank you for input on plants and textile techniques. "

Philip Slough reviewed: Maille making the traditional way.

"Had a great day despite little knowledge on the subject. Phil talked through the history of maille and showed us some original artefacts and talked through the different styles and techniques, as well as how maille evolved throughout the centuries from Celtic culture. We then were given the opportunity to make our own maille rings under his guidance in a workshop which included a lesson in metallurgy and different tools/techniques. We then had a go at making a piece of maille which was much harder than I imagined. With guidance and a bit of help I managed to make a small piece of chain maille. Phil is very knowledgeable on the entire subject as well as the practical application, which meant the structure of the day and learning tools were professional with the historical background explained. The whole experience was very welcoming and even when I struggled with some aspects, was given support by Phil to get through the different stages. Would highly recommend the experience, including total novices such as myself. I was really impressed and a great way to spend some of Fathers Day. "

Phil Parkes Maille responded:

"Thanks for the review Phil and you made a great maille keyring to take away. Glad to hear it made a great Father's Day."

Mel Page reviewed: Glassblowing Full Day Masterclass

"Thanks to Bethany for a fantastic full day workshop. Her tuition was very clear and concise so I could easily follow instructions and she gave us lots of freedom to choose designs within the scope of the piece of glass we were creating. Bethany was very patient when I didn't quite get the instruction right, and allowed me to correct myself rather than just take over. I really enjoyed the whole day - lunch was delicious, the group size worked well and it was fantastic to have a go at such an incredible art. Thank you! "

Emma reviewed: Maille making the traditional way.

"What a fab day! Phil is knowledgeable and passionate about the subject of maille. We started with some background information and had plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Then we went into the well-equipped workshop and made our own rings from scratch using a range of tools. After a lovely, sociable lunch break we then made our own pieces of maille by joining and riveting rings together. Not as easy as it looks, but so satisfying to achieve! We had a nice little goodie bag of our makes to take home at the end of the session. I would recommend this class to history buffs, craft fans, and anybody who fancies doing something a little bit different. "

Phil Parkes Maille responded:

"Thanks Emma, it was great to have the lovely weather to sit in the garden for lunch. Glad to hear you enjoyed the course so much."
