Mark reviewed: Introduction to Greenwood Spoon Carving- Beginners Eating Spoon

"Very enjoyable. Turned a wooden log into a spoon, with the help of Dave and the volunteers. Learnt a lot about wood, woodcraft, hand tools and techniques. The setting was great as was the coffee, biscuits and the conversations with the rest of the group. And, on this occasion, I was glad to be going home with the wooden spoon. Good fun and my thanks to all that were there."

Lewis Howe reviewed: Green Wood Kitchen Utensils at Ecclesall Woods

"Great course. I learnt a wide range of skills which I am keen to take further. Already made my own shave horse and looking at acquiring more tools. Dave and the team are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Covered a wide range of things and already looking forward to booking on the next one. I can't recommend the Ecclesall Woods Craft Courses highly enough and would suggest anybody looking for an introduction to Greenwood skills or to enhance those they already have, to look for a suitable course and get it booked."

Cecily Barton reviewed: Make your very own clutch bag/small tablet device case/sleeve

"I have now done two courses with Richard and I've made a lovely tote bag and a fabulous clutch bag. Both get great comments every time I use them. Having such great instructions throughout made both pieces seem easy to make. Richard gives a lot of background information about the leather, where it comes from and how it's made which is fascinating and helps give a better understanding of the product. I'd like to go weekly and make things all the time!!"

Dawn Evison reviewed: Make a silver ring or bangle

"I've just returned to Durham after spending 2 fascinating and informative days with Lucy at her workshop. Having explored the internet for silversmith/jewellery courses I decided on Lucy because she offers one to one tuition - and has a wealth of experience. I am so glad I made that choice - Lucy is an excellent tutor and and I have had an amazing an exciting introduction to the craft. I felt so comfortable and inspired in her workshop that I didn't want to leave. It was a long way to go but was well worth the journey and I am already planning a return visit."

Rachel Tyerman reviewed: 1-to-1 tailored course with one of the UK's leading glass artists Jennifer Barker, at the Cheshire School of Glass

"I have just returned from a 1 to 1 course with Jennifer Barker at Cheshire School of Glass. I love working with fused glass and I wanted to take my skills up to the next level. I am so pleased that I have found this school, as the course was absolutely amazing. Jen's knowledge is extensive and her enthusiasm contagious. The course exceeded my expectations and I loved my day so much, that I wished I was there for the full week. I have learnt so much in one day and would say if you are thinking of a course in fused glass, this one is a must. I will definitely be booking another day with Jen and will be putting it on my Christmas list."

Liz Taylor reviewed: Weekend upholstery class in Tarland, Aberdeenshire

"Just completed a weekend course with Michelle that exceeded my expectations. I am amazed at how much I learned in replacing a chair seat by traditional upholstery methods. Class of 4 was small, supportive and friendly and Michelle attended to everyone with clear instruction and demonstration. Everyone wanted the recipe for Michelle's home made fruit cake. I hope to take another class in future."

Kenyon-Roberts Upholstery responded:

"Thank you Liz. It was a great weekend & everyone worked so hard. Good luck with your next chair, if you get stuck, give me a shout & hope to see you again soon."

Martine reviewed: Wet felting with Virginia

"Three of us booked a workshop as a 50th birthday present - it was a great way to spend the morning. We nattered away, not believing that we would actually produce anything worth having on a wall in such a short time. How wrong we were! Thanks to Virginia's excellent teaching, patience and sense of humour, we all took home a wet felt picture we were glad to put on show. Thank you!"

Chris Horsburgh reviewed: Chair making course at Sallerton Wood

"This was my second course at Sallerton Wood, I attended the stool making course last year and was my first experience of working with green wood. This year I attended the 6 day chair making course. It was an excellent course. The new workshop is a big improvement, the tools were in superb condition. The tuition provided by Andy conveys his enthusiasm for working with green wood and his deep knowledge of the subject. It provides encouragement for course participants to improve their skills and believe that they can produce from what starts off as a log a great piece of furniture. One chair made, only 5 more to go for the dining room suite I have promised my daughter. I am eagerly awaiting the publication of next year's dates so I can book. In addition, I have now bought my own draw knife from Workaid based in Chesham which is a wonderful charity that reconditions old tools and sends them out to developing countries to support projects run by local people."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thanks very much indeed for your review, Chris. We're delighted that you've enjoyed both of the courses that you have attended, and we look forward to welcoming you back for a further course next season. The course dates for 2020 are on the Sallerton Wood website right now!"

James Crawshaw reviewed: Blacksmithing Introduction courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"Absolutely brilliant. From start to finish the guys were friendly and engaging. Their setup is perfect for the size of the group with plenty of fires and gear. Having never done anything of the sort before I was surprised just how quickly we could get stuck in and start hammering. We made two really cool items to take away and nothing felt rushed or pressured. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to try something different and will definitely be returning for another course in the future. Thanks very much to all involved. James"

Hazel and Paul reviewed: Two person 'Have a Bash' at Blacksmithing course in Shropshire

"This was the absolute highlight of our holiday. Jake is lovely person and a superb teacher - he makes the day relaxed and fun. He paces the introduction of different techniques perfectly - we were busy but never rushed and achieved so much more than we expected to. He is great at assessing and adapting to each individual’s ability and level of confidence. I was certain that I’d need loads of help with the hammering and twisting the iron but, with Jake’s guidance, I actually ended up with pieces that were over 90% my own work. We are so chuffed with the pieces we have made. We’d have no hesitation in recommending the ‘Have a Bash’ day to anyone."

Chris B reviewed: Letter and Relief Carving in stone with Pip Hall ~ a 'Quirky Workshop' at Greystoke Craft Garden & Barns north Lakes & Cumbria

"A brilliant introduction to what will become a new hobby! The wide variety of stones brought along by Pip allowed an equally broad range of ideas to be realised. Pip's skill ensured that while the designs remained 'ours' the ideas both matched the style of lettering and the shape of the stone. Three days were gone in a blink of an eyelid. Many many thanks"

Jane Shergold reviewed: Sculpture in stone for beginners - 3 day course

"A really great experience and was amazed by what we all produced at the end in such a short period of time. On the first day we all produced a model of what we wanted to make and this provided the blue print for the carving. What I liked about it was that it was completely practical and we just got on with it. Kate is a wonderful teacher and provided excellent one-to-one tuition in a small group setting, helping everyone and offering advice on every stage of the carving. Over the three days we learnt to cut out the basic shape and gradually create the final piece. I was really surprised how close to the original model the final sculptures were and it’s certainly inspired me to do more. I learnt such a lot and the hours just flew by. I would really recommend this course whether you are a beginner or have done stone carving before."
