Graham Brough reviewed: Spoon carving, 2 days with Steve Tomlin in the Yorkshire Dales

"This is an excellent course which builds on the beginner's course which I have done previously. Steve is a many skilled person who is also good at teaching. He models a process then monitors your efforts and offers advice in a friendly, constructive manner. It was a lovely relaxing day in good company from my fellow course members. The venue is tremendous, the location dramatic and wonderfully isolated. Rachel and Mike from Broadrake run a very high quality bunk barn in Chapel-le-Dale, it's difficult to concentrate on the carving as the views are so beautiful, regardless of the weather. Luckily there was time for both. On both courses Mike cooked an excellent lunch which were both very tasty. There is home baking and unlimited tea and coffee and always a friendly chat from Rachel. A perfect day. Thank you."

Barry reviewed: Introduction to copper foiling workshop

"This is the second course I have taken with the same tutor. So I came to this with a working knowledge of stained glass. But still it was engaging and informative. It started with the basics and at by the end of the session we had completed a nice little sun catcher. It wasn’t prescriptive so we have the option to make something we designed ourselves. It was a great course with a great tutor."

Manchester Stained Glass responded:

"Thank you Barry for such a nice review. I am very glad that you did find it engaging and informative, on top of the stained glass skills you had already learnt. It was great to have you on the workshop Sharon :)"

Dawn Norris reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing and hand building full day

"Saturday 28th September Our 'clayday' with Richard was fantastic. He took us (daughter and I) through the process of throwing a pot on the wheel and watched and coached while I attempted to remember what he had said and what I had done 60 years ago!!! In the afternoon he showed us how to make a pot with clay 'sausages' which I was none too good at rolling! It is always good to leave a course feeling pleased that you have made something unique. I can't wait to go back to decorate my pots. If you are looking for a fun day with a knowledgeable, patient, and caring teacher, this is the course for you. Richard also makes super tasty soup for lunch!"

Nicky reviewed: Glass Bead Making Workshop - For Two People

"I have now done two bead making courses with Julia and have had a fantastic time on both occasions. Julia is a really good tutor; she explains and demonstrates techniques clearly and is on hand watching how things are going and gives good advice if needed. She is very encouraging and attentive. I felt I really developed some new skills under her guidance. You get going actually making beads surprisingly quickly and both times I have ended up with some beautiful work. The work is really engrossing and there is always more to learn!"

Mrs Laura Ellwood reviewed: Contemporary Furniture Refinishing & Upcycling with Woodcare - 1 Day Beginners

"I spent 2 days with Ollie renovating an old ugly chair. By the end of the course it was transformed into a modern, usable and attractive piece of furniture. The detailed step by step instruction is invaluable. I will be booking a longer course next year as there is so many techniques to learn. Thank you Ollie!"

Lisa Eyre reviewed: Blacksmithing Introduction courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"Bought the taster day as a gift for my partner and got myself a ticket too; so glad I did! This was a fantastic day. All instructions on how to ensure enjoyment of and find the event were clear and easy to follow. The day itself was packed full of instruction and hands-on activities, we both got a real sense of achievement with what we made and were able to build on skills learned in the morning for the more ambitious afternoon project. The venue was great, the food and refreshments really delicious (we ended up asking for several recipes), and the teaching from both Adrian and Andy was really thorough and clear. Would definitely recommend this experience, we'll be looking for their other courses."

Jenny reviewed: Introduction to Candlemaking

"I recently attended Wendy's workshop in candle making, as I'm an avid candle fan and wondered if I could master making my own. Wendy's teaching style is gently relaxed and patient, with pleasant music in the background and great coffee. I soon created an assortment of candles in different styles and colours, but it was rolling beeswax candles that really set me afire...I loved the natural scent and appearance of my creations. Her workshop has given me the confidence to have a bash at home and has set my creative tastebuds tingling. Thank you so much."

Jenny Britten reviewed: Pyrography Delites

"I was thrilled to attend Jane's workshop with my daughter recently to learn a completely new craft. Jane is extremely welcoming....we soon felt as though we had known her for years and although we were initially out of our comfort zone, Jane's bubbly personality soon put us at our ease. The workshop was informative, relaxing and jovial including wonderful buttery scones and drinks. We were soon creating beautiful objects using a variety of methods and equipment, with lots of encouragement and advice from our lovely tutor. I found my session so inspiring that I've already purchased the equipment to continue my craft at home. Thank you Jane, for your inspiration and a wonderful morning."

Jo Simpson reviewed: Weekly dressmaking classes with Go Deer

"I’ve been doing dressmaking classes with Saj for almost 2 years now. I started out making simple things for my 6 y/o daughter (which she loves) and have now progressed to making things for myself – including a tailored winter coat. Saj is a great teacher, with years of dressmaking experience. She is very patient and encouraging – and classes are relaxed, friendly and supportive. I would heartily recommend these classes to anyone who is considering it!"

Thank you Ruth."

Sara Condron reviewed: Craft Retreat at Wild Rose Escapes, Highlands, Scotland

"From the ride from the station this week was an amazing experience. Alex gave us a great rundown of the local environment we were travelling into allowing for this Aussie to acclimatise. The Stables accommodation was very welcoming and comfortable and perfect for our group of 6. Rosie inspired us all to explore the wonders of Highland crafting with natural dyeing techniques, eco-printing and felting. To be able to use products collected from the local area and create wonderful colours and products was fabulous. Joanie's take on the world gave me food for thought and I have another way of thinking to explore and yoga to take up. The wonderful food cooked for us could be an issue if I'd stayed longer as it was too yummy to resist. Walking through the forests of Glen Affric and Loch Ness was an experience to remember as was the beautiful weather Scotland put on for us. A swim in the loch a bonus. Learning about Scottish crafting heritage and participating in waulking singing with Ele (don't need to be able to sing) was great fun along with an evening of spinning with Ali and visits to local craftspeople. Was very sad to leave and hope I will have an opportunity to go back in the future"

Wild Rose Escapes responded:

"Dear Sara, Thank-you for your lovely review- i'm so glad you enjoyed your break from travels with us, it was a pleasure to have met you..and i'm so glad you got a chance to have a dip in a Scottish loch! Hopefully see you again when you next visit the UK. Yours Rosie"
