Liz Cooper reviewed: Hammered/ stamped silver ring workshop

"I attended a hammered ring workshop with Karen. The session was for around 3 hours and thoroughly enjoyable. Just the right amount of tuition and support to allow you to make a fantastic hammered ring. I was so thrilled to walk away wearing a ring I had made and couldn't stop showing it off. Karen was very patient and gave clear instructions throughout the session. She clearly has a high level of expertise and experience and her passion for silversmithing is evident. Would 100% recomend this course."

BENCH space responded:

Janet Patrick reviewed: Beginners 1-day 1-2-1 woodturning workshop for 1 person

"Simon’s woodturning course was a surprise birthday present from my daughter, something I have always fancied trying. I was a complete beginner but with Simon’s guidance, patience and kindness I was pleased and surprised to come away with what I thought were three amazing pieces. I would recommend this course to anyone who would like to try their hand at something new. Many thanks also to Louise for the very welcome refreshments throughout the day."

Leslie Denbie reviewed: Clay sculpture workshops - Monday evening

"I have attended Beatrices' sculpture course for more than six months. Though I had experience drawing and painting I had never done clay sculpture before.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the course, Beatrice is a dedicated and professional teacher and joining a group you also learn from the other students. If you want to learn clay /sculpture I recommend joining one of her weekly groups! "

Amber Cross reviewed: Watercolour painting day - Floral & botanical - with artist Laura Andrew

"I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. Laura was not only friendly and encouraging in her teaching style but also incredibly knowledgeable and patient. And her home proved to be such an inspiring space in which to learn. I had never painted before in my life and was pretty nervous and apprehensive as to whether I’d manage to pick it up. I needn’t have worried with Laura’s guidance I managed to create something that I was so pleased with and have subsequently framed! I’m now waiting for my own art materials to arrive so that I can continue watercolour painting at home. Thank you for introducing me to a new passion!"

Peter Hopwood reviewed: Blacksmith Experience Day - Anvil Forge

"This was a Christmas Present from my son. I attended the course on 23/11/2019. I made a wrought iron log holder which is now sitting proud on my hearth. My wife is delighted with it, which means it has passed style and quality criteria - she is pretty fussy what is allowed in the house ! I had an excellent day which was "hands-on", with help and advise close by, when needed. Well done to everybody at Anvil Forge !"

Anvil Forge responded:

"Hi Peter really pleased that everyone is happy with the end result. I will see you next year as we discussed best wishes John"

Heidi Lee-Webber reviewed: Learn to carve wooden spoons, beginners and improvers

"My husband and I attended this course on Saturday 23rd November and although it was wet and miserable outside we were all warm and snug inside the yurt. Very good course - Dave is very helpful and has advice for beginners and improvers. Axe work was very good, as I hadn't realised how much work could be done in shaping the design with such a large instrument! By the end although tired (with all the thinking!) I felt we'd all learned a great deal and will be continuing with both spoons and spreaders."

John K McGregor reviewed: Alien spoon carving

"What a wonderful day that was. Working away in the conservatory with the rain battering off of the roof, the smell of the wood shavings, everyone concentrating on their own creations, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a wet Saturday. Alan’s teaching was very relaxed and informative and we were all carving away after no time at all. All the safety techniques and easy ways to carve were taught as well as looking after our bodies with rest and exercising those unused muscles. We were looked after royally by Alan’s wife who made delicious scones soup and cakes washed down with lashings of coffee, excellent. I would highly recommend this course, even for existing spoon makers there is something new to learn. I will be very interested in any other courses he teaches."

Philippa Lewis reviewed: Half day - 3D Needlefelt Christmas Tree Decorations

"I spent an afternoon felting Christmas decorations in the gorgeous Swallows and Artisans workshop. I was new to needle felting and this was a great introduction. I left with an angel and Christmas pudding and the knowledge and skills to go away and continue the craft. Hanne was an excellent tutor who is clearly passionate about her craft and took time to assist everyone when needed. I stayed overnight in the adjacent Lanehead which I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a crafty break."

Ming Tang reviewed: Kate Morrell willow sculpture courses

"This is my second time with Kate, I made a heron on the first course and a baby deer on this occasion. Kate is so artistic and really brings her eye to helping you get the best proportions and correct anatomy, so that your piece not only looks great, but has a genuine likeness and personality! I will definitely recommend this course, lovely atmosphere and food, and Kate is truly patient and passionate about her craft."
