Marc Orlando reviewed: Forge a Knife- Blacksmithing and Knifemaking Experience Day

"A brilliant experience that far exceeded my expectations to say the least. Jon is a great teacher who achieves the perfect balance between stepping in, and letting you get on with exploring your creativity and developing your skills. As as result, I am genuinely proud of the knife I was able to make under his guidance, and in his perfectly appointed forge. Thank you Jon for a great day. "

Gustav Maskowitz reviewed: Bladesmithing Experience Day

"This was a gift and easily the best thing I’ve done in years. Thoroughly recommend it. Our teacher was super attentive and we felt very looked after, safe and helped. At some point I was scared I was messing up my knife, but received all the help I could have asked for. Very thankful for the true actual freedom to learn, but also the help when I hit the edge of my capability. I have a memory that will last forever. Oh, and a kick@ss knife!!!"

Adam Side reviewed: Forge a Knife- Blacksmithing and Knifemaking Experience Day

"If you have any interest in Blacksmithing, bladesmithing or just want a fun day out doing something practical, do this course. It’s a brilliant way to spend a day and I enjoyed my day from start to finish. Jon’s teaching style is fun and informative, he tells you clearly and concisely what you should be doing and if required gives a short practical demonstration, then it’s over to you. Thankfully Jon remains close at hand ready to step in if needed. It is a full on day and you spend your whole time working on your knife, heating, hammering, quenching, drilling, grinding and sanding, but there is also time to chat. I particularly enjoyed learning a little about how the physical state of the metal I was working on was changing during the course various processes we subjected it to and also hearing some of Jon’s blacksmiths anecdotes. I was impressed with the knife I produced, it’s fair to say that when I got home my wife was astounded with it. Top tip, select the option for Jon’s home made packed lunch, his wife’s sausage rolls are outstanding."

Stuart Davies reviewed: One to one, One day, blacksmith course

"What a wonderful way to spend a couple of days away from the ping of emails and messages! Absorbing yourself in a traditional craft that has to be worked at and to then produce something to be really proud of. I have just returned from a two day course with Alex, and produced a Lily bird bath and feeder, swiftly followed by a log turner and fire rake with twists. This was something I really wanted to have a go at and I am so pleased to have found Alex and the Chalk Pit Forge. Alex is a very patient and welcoming teacher - especially when explaining a technique for the thousandth time to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the forge and I am thinking about my next project already!"

Chalk Pit Forge responded:

"Hi Stuart, Thanks so much for your review, it's much appreciated. Glad to hear you found me to be a welcoming and patient teacher! I look forward to your next project. All the best Alex "

Tamara reviewed: Raku - learn the exciting art of rapid Japanese glaze firing

"This was a brilliant birthday present for my partner. We had a really fun day out, learning something completely new and coming home with beautiful creations (wasn’t expecting to feel as happy with them for a first attempt). Richard was a very engaging teacher. We were total beginners but he made the course accessible as well as catering for those in the class who came with experience. We met some lovely people on the course - a really memorable day and introduction to a craft we would 100% like to continue with. Thank you Richard!"

Potterydayz responded:

"It was a pleasure to see you both on Sunday for the course. Thank you for making the trip from London and for taking the time to put up such a nice review. I hope to see you again before to long."
