Jayne Bradley reviewed: Lampworking Workshop: Half Day Beginners Workshop

"I really enjoyed my half-day Lampworking Course with Suzanne - it was something I knew little about and had never tried but by the end of the session, I was hooked. Suzanne is a great tutor, super-talented, very clear in her instructions and guidance and has set up a lovely studio to work in with quality equipment and materials. It was an unexpected bonus to have one-to-one tuition from Suzanne too and take inspiration from all the fantastic lampworking examples she has made. I would highly recommend this workshop."

Richard Moore reviewed: Introduction to woodturning: one to one

"Wonderful day on the lathe. Having VERY limited experience, I found Bill to be very patient and helpful without being condescending or 'taking over'. That said, he's happy to step in to save the project if you need him! Overall a fantastic day, informative, fun and I came away with an awesome bowl. Currently planning a follow-up session to work on another project..."

Jenny reviewed: Resin jewellery making workshop

"I expected a proper work shop, but the course was set in a converted garage/room of the house. Such a small room /space. There were only 3 of us who attended, any more would have be too many. I was hoping for more practical help and a thorough explanation of the process. It felt more suited for the casual amateur or for young children for a fun treat activity. Because I was sat at the end of the table I felt that I was very much overlooked and generally left to get on with it. The two other ladies that were in this session were getting their work checked regularly and I noticed the host used the flame to help remove bubbles from their setting jewellery, however when I asked for my items to be checked she just told me to use a spray bottle of alcohol and didn't check my work. When I read up about using alcohol spray apparently this can damage the resin and discolour it. Again, I wanted my pendants checked as I had spoilt the silver frames by using too much resin, so I asked for help (as the pendants needed to be rescued) but the host didn't check again and said she would clean them up before sending them on to me. However, when I received them they hadn't been cleaned up. I definitely felt it wasn't worth the money; we all paid the same fee so we should all get the same help and attention. Maybe I just picked the wrong course this time."

ToDot Handcrafted Goods responded:

"Many thanks … for your feedback and I’m sorry you were disappointed with your experience overall. My room was converted into a studio which happens to be part of the house and I have a maximum of 3 in my room at any one time so that I can give the appropriate attention to all the pupils. I have ran numerous courses over the years and have never received any negative feedback on the room. On the day I showed examples of what can be made and I did explain the process and completed a full demonstration before attendees started any work with the resin. It is a taster class which I advertise as being suitable for people with no prior experience. Attendees in the past have returned to gain further experience so it can be progressed over additional/longer workshops. On your point on using alcohol spray - it is in the guidance to use in small amounts for any bubbles in resin so please rest assured this is not an issue. In regard to your pieces, I spent 4 days after the workshop checking the pieces and cleaning them up. The one piece you are unhappy with is perhaps one process I won’t offer in the future. It is a tricky piece and perhaps should be used by those more experienced. I didn’t want to touch your pieces when you mentioned you’d overfilled them as I didn’t want to disturb the drying resin. After it was cured I felt any removal of excess would damage the main piece due to the thinness. You were able to make 2 pairs of earrings and 5 pendants which were, for a complete beginner, a great achievement in my view. Claire "

Kathy Alexander reviewed: Chair seat rushing and caning workshop

"From the first time meeting Peter for my ‘Chair Assessment’, throughout the restoration and to the final session when the restoration was complete I felt that Peter understood what I wanted to achieve. I went along with a ‘tired’ oak corner chair that needed the seat re-rushing and, following Peter’s advice, left inspired to restore the full chair and not just the seat. Several sessions later I left with a lovely restored oak corner chair with a re-rushed seat, all of which I completed under Peter’s guidance and without removing the patina and history of the chair, which held many memories from my childhood. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am now looking round for my next project. So, if you have any antique furniture that you would like to have a go at restoring, I can 100% recommend Peter @ The Upholstery Tutor / Peter White Furniture. "

Peter White Furniture responded:

"Thank you Kathy for your kind words. It was a pleasure to pass on my knowledge to you. Your chair looks fantastic after all your hard work. Enjoy . Peter"

Lisa Trowbridge reviewed: One Day Beginners Mosaic Workshop All Levels

"I attended a mosaics day course with Justine in Talbot Green yesterday. It was really easy to find her house and parking wasn’t a problem. Justine was a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable about her craft and was able to explain it clearly and easily to us. We were a small group of 5 and the atmosphere was very friendly and supportive which helped to make us novices feel relaxed about learning a new skill. We all had fun and enjoyed ourselves immensely. I would definitely attend another course with Justine if it covered a subject that I was interested in. "

"This was my first adventure with fused glass! Diane was great. Very helpful and on hand to answer any questions. She explained the process and the different kinds of glass to help get me started. I created 4 glass panels for a lantern. I was really pleased with my endeavours! There was lots of colours and options to choose from for the creations. I left them with Diane to put through the kiln process, and I will return to pick them up in a few days. It was a very enjoyable few hours of creativity spent in the company of other crafters and in a lovely creative space. Thank you Crafty Diane. "

Rosemary allard reviewed: Upholstery 1 day workshop - make your own footstool

"I was looking forward to doing this course with my daughter Sarah. The place is a bit out of the way but a nice drive through the village of Wray. On arrival we started with tea and warm croissants then we started on our footstools. Sarah realised just how hard it is on your hands. At lunchtime Sue supplied us with a beautiful meal, very filling. We then went back to work. I had done some upholstery before but I learnt things I hadn’t done before. Mid afternoon was tea and mince pie although stuffed it would have been rude not to. We over ran on time a little but the result was a lovely footstool."

Tuffett responded:

"Thank you for your review. It was lovely to meet you both and you made two beautiful footstools. Kind regards, Sue"
