"Wicked Fun, Awesome course and tutor :-), Definitely would love to do another blacksmithing day or 2 again. Very interesting facts, and a eye opener to different skills and techniques to the blacksmithing crafting world. Went as a group of four on my cousin's birthday, a complete novice, yet with the brilliant friendly guidance and loads of help from Matt (tutor) and Floyd we all produced 4 great starter hooks and 4 striking knives. A memorable challenge that can be done reaping great rewarding achievements. "

Nikki R. reviewed: 6 Week Dressmaking Course

"I've competed both this 6 week dress making course and the 1 day Pinafore Dress workshop, and both were excellent! I was a complete novice when I started the dress making course but the workshops include everything you need to know from reading and understanding patterns to actually seeing it all together. Emma who owns the shop and runs most of the workshops is lovely and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend this course and I'll certainly be trying other workshops at Nellies in the future. "

Rebecca reviewed: Introduction to spooncarving at Hill End

"Fantastic day-long introduction to spoon carving and green wood working in a lovely setting. David and Caroline's passion and enthusiasm for their craft was infectious, and their tuition was excellent. I'd never even held an axe before the course, and still came away with a carved spoon I'm delighted with! We also received a lot of useful knowledge on the carving process and keeping your tools sharp. Highly recommend this course. "

David Knight Woodland Crafts responded:

"Thanks Rebecca. I hope it won't be the first and last time you hold a carving axe in your hand. A lifetime of carving exploration awaits if you wish! "

The studio is lovely, and Liz had everything we needed to succeed in designing and cutting a Lino to print. With a maximum of 4 people per session, it was a cosy and personal experience. Amelia reviewed: STITCHING WITH BEAK BREWERY

"I can highly recommend, I had a really excellent time. It was great to get to learn a new skill and Saskia was really helpful and welcoming. It was great to have the opportunity to practice the skills first, then the option of mending something of our own. Saskia took the time to look at all the items people brought with them, and talked us through how to fix them. A really fun activity to do alone, or with a friend (I took my dog as the venue was dog friendly)."

Mend House responded:

"What a lovely review! Thank you so much Amelia, it was lovely to have you at the workshop. "

Ben reviewed: Full day introductory knifemaking course

"My friends and I did the day of knife making with Matt and it was such a great day. Matt and Floyd greeted us, got us sorted with a cup of tea and went through how the forge works, safety, and a demonstration efficiently and had us making our first hooks in no time which I really appreciate. Within the first hour we were on to starting the knives and it was a lot fun (and lots and lots of hard work!). Matt helped us out and gave us tips and tricks along the way, as well as fixing our mistakes. By the end of the day we had some functional knives that looked pretty good for a first attempt as well as aching arms. We decided to eat at the King's Head pub a little down the road before the drive home and Matt and Floyd joined us for a drink and we spent a while chatting. Overall, I couldn't recommend this experience enough. It was so much fun, enjoyably difficult, and we felt like we got more value out of the experience than what we paid for. Cheers Matt and Floyd! We'll be back to make a sword soon."

Fair Mile Forge responded:

"Thank you for the excellent review Ben, It was so great to meet you all and teach such a brilliant group! I hope you are all pleased with your first work , it was hard work but you all put in the graft and did an excellent job, well done! and hope to see you again soon"

Pamela Davies reviewed: Needle felted Dogs & Cats in (Halifax)

"My friend and I had a wonderful day with Jo making felted replicas of our 2 dogs. She was such an excellent teacher asking us all along the way about how we wanted the pace of learning to be in order to suit us best. She is clearly very skilled and knowledgeable as well as immensely patient. She very kindly did this date as an additional session and as there were just the two of us, allowed us to bring our dogs along with us. I would absolutely recommend this course either as a one off for fun or as a way into further felting."

Phinefibre responded:

"It was lovely to meet you both and your two adorable little dogs, great and different to have live models in the studio! It was a wonderful day and delighted you enjoyed it. I was very happy to help you both create such wonderful, detailed little needle felted pets sculptures. With so much attention to detail. Defo helps to have the dogs present. Thank you for writing a review and for your kind recommendation. "

Doro Maginnis reviewed: Blind Embossing: lino printing without inks, in Derbyshire

" Before the course we were sent preparatory information and precise instructions on how to access the venue which was very useful. On arrival, Liz was immediately warm and welcoming, her hospitality and the beautiful studio experience elevated the day to something very special. Her tuition was clear, encouraging and helpful, bridging our varying levels of ability. As a complete novice I felt confident to have a go and learnt a lot about the processes involved. We were provided with great quality materials to use and supported with tips and information throughout the day about future materials we may desire to purchase ourselves. Additionally Liz had printed lino embossing instructions for us to take and use at home. I am fired to practice lino cutting more and enrol on a lino printing course with Liz , I already know it will be a great day! "

Liz Wellby - Artist, Teacher & Maker responded:

"Hi Doro, Thank so much for your thorough, thoughtful and positive endorsement, regarding your day at The Slipper Studio - I am touched by your kind words. I feel you are well and truly bitten by the printmaking bug and you’re going to have a great time exploring the range and potential of the processes. You’ll be most welcome to come back and get messy with inks. Thank you again and very best wishes. Liz Wellby "
