The Art of Faux Fry-up — 2-Day Fake Food Sculpture Workshop
Description
Step into the historic artist town of Kirkcudbright and join us at the Fake Food Workshop — the UK’s only dedicated faux food store and creative studio — for a truly unique two-day experience. You’ll be taught by award-winning sculptor Kerry Samantha Boyes, whose work is in high demand worldwide. From supplying the film and television industry to building bespoke replica menus for historic houses and museums, Fake Food Workshop is renowned for its lifelike craftsmanship and attention to detail. Join us for a two-day creative workshop at the Fake Food Workshop in Kirkcudbright. You’ll learn a range of techniques behind casting, painting, and assembling your own selection of classic faux breakfast favourites. Working in a relaxed, small group setting with expert guidance every step of the way, you’ll model forms in clay, cast in Jesmonite, add fine details using wax, and bring each piece to life with realistic paint and final touches. Over the two days, you’ll create a selection of four breakfast ingredients from our menu, choosing from sausages, fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, and toast, which you will fix to a plate — and your finished pieces carefully dried and posted to you after the workshop. No prior experience is needed — just creativity and a willingness to explore. Finished pieces are carefully dried and posted to you after the class. What you will learn: - Basics of food sculpture and form-making. - Jesmonite casting and wax detailing techniques. - Hand-painting and final touches for realism. - Composition and presentation of a classic breakfast plate.
