Silver Casting for Jewellery Making - One Day Workshop - In Person, In London
Description
One day introduction to the casting process for jewellery making. Casting is the process of melting your metal and pouring it into some sort of mould to create a shape. We work with simple, fairly low tech options suitable for continuing at home/in a small jewellery workshop. This course is recommended for students who already have some basic metalworking/jewellery bench skills, to make the most of the day. In this one day course, we cover some fun, experimental water/drop casting to create unique abstract forms, as well as using sand (delft clay) casting to replicate more structured forms such as rings or charms using a pre-prepared model as a base. Maximum class size of 2 people at my dedicated workshop space here in Camden Town, London NW1 - this allows plenty of individual support and time to melt/pour. The workshop space is downstairs and therefore unfortunately not accessible - if you have mobility issues - do get in touch before booking. Course runs from 10am to 5pm with a one hour lunch break.
What's included in the price?
During the day you will have the chance to do several different castings in sterling silver. You will then choose the most successful one/s to continue working on to refine, adapt and finish into wearable piece/s. Less successful castings will be melted back down. If you have a specific design in mind - please get in touch to discuss this in advance. The fee includes: your day of tuition, use of all relevant tools, a certain amount of silver offcuts and casting grain and any other consumables needed for your pieces, plus tea, coffee and refreshments. Lunch is not included, but there are many local cafes nearby. You will leave with at least one finished solid silver casting ready to wear. If you want to keep more of your silver castings than the included allowance, this can be paid at cost on the day.

FAQs
My classes have a maximum of 3 students - or less.
This is partly to ensure everyone has adequate space and tools to work comfortably, but also to ensure each student can have the best experience and have enough support and attention to ensure that everyone can get as much as possible out of their day.
There is no allocated parking.
Parking is possible on the neighbouring streets - this is just standard on street parking - to pay digitally to the council. Or there are paid car parks not too far away.
I do not recommend driving unless you have no other option - the location is very well served by public transport.
I teach only those people over 18 years old. So only if your children are adults!
I'm very sorry but my space is not accessible - there are steps at the front door to enter the property, and the main workshop and toilet are both on the lower ground floor, downstairs. I am very sorry about this.
I am located in Camden Town - in central London - NW1 - just a 5 minute walk from either Camden Town station on the Northern Line tube, or also from Camden Road Overground station. Full address details provided with your booking confirmation.
