Preserving your Garden Produce ("What can I do with all these courgettes?!")

X

Description

In this workshop you will learn from a specialist permaculture-based food producer, Peni Ediker, who will demonstrate many ways to make best use of your garden gluts (especially those abundant courgettes!), including a delicious courgette chutney and a prebiotic courgette ferment. Peni will also share recipes and top tips for making simple fruit vinegars. Preserving food not only reduces waste, it also provides home-grown food throughout the year and, in some cases, enhances the nutritional value of your produce. It also saves you money, since chutneys, ferments and fruit vinegars don't come cheap! Plus, you can save money on meaningful gifts for family and friends. And what could be more fun than getting together with others and making some preserves together, while taking home some new recipes and inspiration? We are delighted to be able to offer this workshop at a subsidised rate, well below the full market price of £60. Our standard ticket costs £40 per person. Our discounted ticket costs £25, for those who may struggle to afford the standard price. Our supporter ticket costs £55, for those who are able to pay closer to full market rate and would like to support the project’s running costs. Please select the ticket price that best fits your circumstances. You can do this by clicking the 'all booking options' link beneath the first ticket price you see on your screen. We want to further help remove financial barriers to learning and we can offer free places for those who are facing financial hardship (e.g. in exchange for some volunteering time). Our definition of financial hardship is those who are finding it hard to meet essential everyday costs such as food and fuel, and those who rely on benefits. To request a free ticket, please get in touch with us via the 'message the tutor' button outlining why you would like a ticket on this basis. N.B. we reserve the right to issue a partial refund, retaining a non-returnable deposit of £15 in the event of less than one week's notice of cancellation, as a contribution to our administration costs and loss of revenue.

What's included in the price?

You will need to bring a packed lunch, a sharp knife and any spare courgettes you may have (if you grow your own). All other materials and tools, including jars, will be provided. We will also provide teas, coffee and biscuits.

Cilrath Acre is based on Cilrath Fach farm close to Narberth. We run a productive and regenerative growing space, bringing together community and connecting people to nature, the land and locally grown food. Our aim is to take positive action, in response to the climate emergency whilst addressing food poverty and building community resilience. We provide at least 50% of the produce we grow to Pembrokeshire Foodbank, on a weekly basis during the harvesting season (approximately June to February). Since early 2024 we have also been running varied learning activities on the land on themes of growing food, permaculture, land-based skills and food preparation and preservation.
