‘Copy Your Favourite Clothes’ Pattern Workshop
Description
Do you have a favourite item of clothing – it fits beautifully and suits you to perfection – and think…why can’t I find another one that looks just like this? Are you worried about your favourite item wearing out, or does it have a hole in it? Well, this workshop will teach you how to ‘copy’ your favourite item and create a pattern from it, so you can make many more! LEARN TO CLONE YOUR CLOTHES. Discover how to recreate your favourite pieces by turning them into repeatable patterns! Bring along garments you love, and leave with a custom pattern ready for future sewing projects. What will you learn? We’ll guide you through the basics of duplicating your clothes. You’ll start by tracing your chosen garment, matching curves and seams, adding seam allowances, and labelling each piece. If you don’t finish during the session, you’ll be equipped to complete everything at home. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a pattern taken from a garment you bring—perfect for making again and again. Who should attend? This session is ideal for adults with a strong understanding of sewing basics—perhaps you’ve completed a beginner dressmaking course or similar projects. If you’re comfortable with a sewing machine and familiar with following paper patterns, you’ll fit right in. What should you bring? To get the most out of the workshop, choose simple garments such as pencil or A-line skirts, blouses, or dresses with minimal details. Zips are fine, but we recommend avoiding items with a fly front or complex features. Advanced sewists may bring a garment featuring one or two pleats. Feel free to bring up to three items for review. Please note: We’ll be copying your garment’s exact size during the session and won’t have time to adjust for different sizing. Level: Intermediate – Confident using a sewing machine. – Able to cut or pin fabric. – Can thread a sewing machine. – Comfortable sewing straight lines and varied seam allowances. – Has completed projects like pillowcases, tote bags, zip pouches, skirts, or PJ bottoms. – Understands how to use a paper pattern. This workshop takes place in our Sewing School. Wendy Gardiner will be your teacher: “It’s hard to describe what I do for a living in a few words because it’s also a hobby, a passion and indeed an addiction! My Serendipity career in sewing has led from Editor of leading sewing magazines to author of 17 books, presenter of countless DVDs and YouTube clips to guest presenter on Create and Craft TV and Ideal World TV. I also run and teach at Creative Sewing Weekends, write projects and techniques articles for various magazines under my guise of Brand Ambassador for The McCall Pattern Company and organise extensive workshop programmes for the Knitting and Stitching Shows and Festival of Quilts, oh and 'Ive written the book that accompanies the Great British Sewing Bee. I look forward to sharing my passion for sewing with you!” This workshop takes place upstairs in our new sewing school and I’m afraid we do not have a lift. We do have a toilet and refreshment station upstairs.
