Cat's Cottage: one day creative writing & confidence building with Cat Weatherill
Description
Cat writes... Escape for the day! Come to my cottage. It's four hundred years old, full of stories and situated in the middle of a charming market town in Warwickshire. Here the kettle is always warm, the sun always shines/ the rain always sparkles and a magical day awaits, filled with creativity, possibilities - and cake! This is a day for YOU. It's not a regular creative writing workshop. We won't be discussing plotting or characterisation (unless you want to) Rather we will be chatting about you and your writing. How you feel about it and what you need to happen before you can really fly with it. We'll spend a good hour or so writing in one of Alcester's wonderful coffee shops. I'll talk you through how I approach coffee shop writing, then we'll do it together. We'll browse in the charity shops for objects to inspire more writing back at the cottage. We'll enjoy a home-cooked veggie lunch. You can ask me as many questions as you want about writing, finding inspiration, being an author, traditional publishing, self-publishing... anything, really! The hours will fly by in a sparkle of ideas, advice and laughter. I will send you home fizzing with ideas and the confidence to explore them. About me: I have been a professional story-spinner for more than twenty years. I'm a best-selling children's author and have written for adults in The Times and on BBC Radio 4. I'm also a performance storyteller, working internationally at festivals, in theatres & schools and at historic sites. As a workshop leader I've worked for the Society of Authors, The Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Trust, the RSPB, the British Council (as far away as Singapore!) and many literary festivals across the UK. I have always been passionate about helping people find the confidence to be creative. I know from my own life experience that sometimes we can feel like a rocket ships, pointing at the stars, longing to fly, but needing a boost to get us off the launchpad. That is what my work is about - giving people the rocket fuel they need. Then BOOM! They can fly. It is joyous work - I love it :-) 'Being with Cat is like swallowing sunshine" - Charlie Jordan, poet catweatherill.co.uk

FAQs
Yes, this is possible. I tend to list weekend dates but can do mid-week days too. Let's chat!
Yes. It's one-to-one, so you won't have to introduce yourself to strangers or share any of your work. I can also do it with two attendees, if your friend would like to do it too. (You will both need to book tickets)
No. You can be a complete beginner. This day isn't about the standard of your writing - it is about YOU. It's about inspiring you and making you feel more confident about writing. You will go home brimming with ideas.
No. It is a pet-free, no smoking cottage. I am a vegetarian and can cater for vegan / gluten free too.
It is very accessible by car. There is on-street parking and a choice of free car parks within close walking distance of my cottage. The nearest train station is Stratford Upon Avon. I will happily pick you up and return you (£10 extra)
That should be fine. I might need to change it too! It's best if we try to stick to it, but things can come up unexpectedly.
