Description
Get to know your sewing machine, right from the basics. Winding bobbins correctly, replacing and threading needles, what the dials for stitch length, width and tension are all about and how to use basic feet to get the best results. It's a great ‘play day’ to build your confidence with sewing machines. At the end of the day, you will go home with a pouch/wash bag. If you want to carry on learning, the afternoon workshop is our 'Beginners Guide to Dressmaking skills' and would be perfect to continue your sewing journey. This workshop takes place in our Sewing School. We have brand new Janome sewing machines for you to use, plus all the other tools, equipment and sewing ‘notions’. Wendy Gardiner will be your teacher: “It’s hard to describe what I do for a living in a few words because it’s also a hobby, a passion and indeed an addiction! My serendipity career in sewing has led from editor of leading sewing magazines to author of 17 books, presenter of countless DVDs and YouTube clips to guest presenter on Create and Craft TV and Ideal World TV. I also run and teach at Creative Sewing Weekends, write projects and techniques articles for various magazines under my guise of Brand Ambassador for The McCall Pattern Company and organise extensive workshop programmes for the Knitting and Stitching Shows and Festival of Quilts, oh and I've written the book that accompanies the Great British Sewing Bee. I look forward to sharing my passion for sewing with you!” We have sewing machines you can use, but if you prefer to bring your own, you are very welcome to. This workshop takes place upstairs in our new sewing school and I’m afraid we do not have a lift. We have a toilet and refreshment station upstairs.
