Having been given a piece of clay when I was 6 years old, I knew what I wanted to do. My dad thought I needed a "proper job" and I became a secretary. Soon I wanted to go back to college and study for my degree. A local pottery offered me a job as a thrower and after several years employed I was able to and given the opportunity to open my own studio. Teaching and sharing my knowledge about clay and all its workings on the potter's wheel and hand building are now paramount to Siramik.
"My friend and I did this 4 hour course and loved it! We had no experience but that didn’t matter. Yoka was a great teacher - patient and helpful (especially with the centring of the clay which I found particularly tricky!). We made 5 items each and chose to pay a little extra to keep more than the 2 included in the price. Can’t wait to get them in a few weeks (be aware that you need to return to the studio to collect them). I would definitely recommend this course - great fun and great value. "
Siramik responded:
"Hello Vicky,
Thank you for your kind words, you were great students and really progressed well. Yes, finished ceramics can be collected from the studio but can also be send to you if you live further away, that is no problem. Now the waiting for your pots starts.... they will be ready soon.

"I purchased this course for my partner at Christmas. He thoroughly enjoyed his pottery experience and spent all night afterwards looking at potters wheels!
Yoka is a fantastic, patient and welcoming instructor. An asset to the art.
My partner would be very interested in attending another class. *****"

"Hello, thank you for your kind words about the half day course on the potter's wheel. Yes, your partner was enjoying the course and made some good pots during the morning. Progression of skill was great to see and the "proof was in the pudding". Thank you for taking part, keep potting."
"I booked this half day course for my partners birthday with not much interest for myself. But I had the best day at Yoka’s workshop. She is an excellent teacher and really guides you through the day. I would highly recommend this course for anyone who wants a great day out and to gain a lot of knowledge in a short amount of time. Yoka was brilliant and she is a brilliant potter. Her work is on display in the workshop.
As for the day itself, you gain some background into the various techniques, then you make around 4 or 5 different pots. Highly recommend "
Siramik responded:
"Hello Barry,
Thank you very much for your kind words, participants indeed come in with a question mark and walk away at the end of the course with a big smile on their face! You were lovely students and the proof is in the pudding of the amount of wonderful pots you made. Now.... it is waiting till they are all fired. Thank you for your company during the course, it was my pleasure."
"Found this experience far better than I thought I might! Yoka is a lovely teacher, very clear with her instructions. You learn about the clay and some of the process at the start which I appreciated. Then onto throwing the 4 or 5 pots, each one becoming slightly easier. Reflecting on the morning afterwards, realised that it's Yoka herself who really delivers such a fun and inspiring morning. I'm not surprised her full courses are well booked in advance! I want to do it again!! "
