Maker's bio

I trained as a cabinetmaker 50 years ago. As a mature student, I obtained a first class honours degree in antique furniture conservation and restoration. I set up my business, Peter White Furniture, where for the last 20 years I have been restoring and upholstering antique furniture for clients. Now in my upholstery studio, and under the name of 'The upholstery tutor' I offer upholstery courses where students will learn to upholster their own chair using traditional techniques and materials. Based in a rural setting overlooking the Warwickshire countryside.

Judith reviewed: Traditional upholstery assessment before starting a course.

"I attended an assessment pre starting an upholstery course with Peter. Having had no previous experience, it was well worth the time. It gave an opportunity to understand what the course would involve; what I could expect to learn, the commitment required, as well as the terms of the course. Peter was very informative and helpful, enabling me to evaluate my needs and options. I am looking forward to acquiring my project and starting the actual course."

"The most enjoyable few hours I've spent in a very long time. Peter is a fantastic teacher and the atmosphere in his workshop is so relaxed and productive that I would happily spend time there every day. In fact, my chair is nearly done so I think it might be time to go hunting for my next project..."
