Maker's bio

I'm Mike Craig, a green woodworker based at the Otley Chevin Forest Park which is situated above the picturesque market town of Otley, West Yorkshire. I have over 20 years experience as an educator in countryside management and wildlife conservation and over 10 years experienced as a green woodwork course tutor. The only thing I enjoy more than carving green wood in a woodland setting is helping others to discover and develop their own green woodwork skills.

Kate Sunley reviewed: Introduction to Bowl Carving

"Great experience and despite being a complete novice with Mike’s instruction and help I managed to make a bowl from scratch that I’m really happy with. Mike was a great teacher and so knowledgeable. "

Liz reviewed: Spoon Carving Taster Session

"I really enjoyed this workshop. I don't know where the time went, it's such an absorbing activity. Mike was great, he explained everything in great detail so it was really clear what to do (and what not to do). I didn't have time to finish my spoon but I'm hooked now so I'll be ordering some tools so I can finish it at home. I want to do the bowl carving workshop next. Oh and Jack the dog is adorable!"

Aidan reviewed: Scandinavian Shrink Pots

"I thoroughly enjoyed the course. We started with a chunk of tree branch and ended up with a very attractive and unusual pot. Mike really knows his stuff and has a good balance between keeping a close eye on what we're doing while letting us get on with it and try different skills."
