Ruth and Andy Harrison are full time self-taught lampwork and fused glass artists based in Burton-On-Trent.
Glass and jewellery design began as a hobby, quickly became an addiction followed soon after by us selling our business and creating our own studio to work with glass full time.
"Fantastic course - we attended with 2 children (aged 8 and 10) and it was perfect for them as well as the adults. All the glass was pre-cut so just needed to use our own creativity to make the pieces. Glass was fired and returned to us quickly too and we are pleased with the results."
"What a lovely day! My daughter & I booked a half day to make some beads with Ruth. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. With absolutely no prior glass bead making experience we came away with a small number of really beautiful, fully formed, extremely precious beads! Ruth was wonderfully patient, very welcoming and gave great instruction. I've followed up this half day of lampwork with a full day just for myself..."

"Thank you Sasha, glad to hear you enjoyed your day and will look forward to seeing you again soon. "
"The two of us really enjoyed our introduction to glass fusion with Andy. Following a demo we were able to make 4 pieces between us with botanical and sea themes, either a wave piece or panels for a lantern, and we can't wait to see how they turn out. In this workshop all of the decorations are pre-made ready to decorate the glass panels as we wish, but this suited us as we had never handled these materials before. Andy was friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him about the various production processes involved and the other types of glasswork they do there. He also makes an excellent cup of tea! We are keen to return to try a more advanced workshop."
Kalypso Glass responded:
"Thank you Laura, glad to hear you enjoyed your day, you made some great pieces too."
"I have just attended a Glass Fusing full day introduction 1-2-1 course with Andy from Kalypso Glass in Burton. The booking process was very easy, and I received good communications from Andy, giving me directions and advice pre-course. I had to change the date of my course at short notice, which Andy arranged for me. I arrived at 10am, and I left at 5pm. I learnt how to score and cut glass sheets, and created a bowl, 2 standing wavy pieces - an under water theme and flowers in a meadow, a Santa Claus, a snowman and an angel. Lastly I made a colourful tea light. Andy explained the process throughout the day, telling me about different types of glass, how the pieces are fired, different temperatures used etc. Very detailed! Andy was very happy to share his knowledge and was very easy to talk to. He was very patient. I did this course as a one-off as I just was curious how glass fusing worked. The amount of detail would be very useful if someone was interested in learning more about the process for a hobby or for work. I really enjoyed the course and would recommend it, and Andy, to anyone who wants to learn about glass fusing."
Kalypso Glass responded:
"Thank you Anne, glad to hear you enjoyed your day with us, it was great to meet you."
