Hammer and Hound Forge is a traditional blacksmith's workshop in Blyth, Northumberland, Uk owned by award winning blacksmith Alex Sowden, who you might have seen before on Sky Arts' "The Prince's Master Crafters", or BBC1's "Make It At Market".
We offer a variety of experiences in metalwork for all skill levels, including tuition in welding and fabrication, forging damascus steel, jewellery techniques and much more!
We produce kits of hand forged woodworking supplies, as well as tools for other crafts, though our stock is often forged on commission.
We also take on larger work, such as forging gates and railings, overthrows, staircases and all variety of ironwork.

"After having been surprised by my son Gareth at xmas by the gift of making a Demarcus knife I have to give thanks to Alex for which can only be said was a fantastic weekend. Your dedication to making the experience informative, inviting and fun was second to none. A relaxed and friendly atmosphere with plenty of cuppas and biscuits made for a great 2 days. Your knowledge and ability to explain exactly what was needed to achieve the outcome we were hoping for was brilliant. I would definitely recommend Hammer and Hound to anyone who is thinking of partaking in a blacksmiths/forging experience. We will definitely booking again in the future. "
"Alex is a fantastic teacher and blacksmith! The course is set at an excellent pace, but makes you go home feeling that you’ve put in some hard graft!
An excellent range of techniques were taught, and Alex is a brilliantly engaging teacher and orator. I left feeling really well informed and interested about blacksmithing; he is the real deal!"
"Had a great day set at a relaxed pace which was informative and instructive.
We all came away with functional fully completed knives.
Alex is a good teacher. "
"Brilliant course by Alex. We had a wonderful time and he was able to help us create our vision of an axe and hammer.
Thank you "
