Paul Bradley reviewed: Woodturning taster

"This course was purchased as a gift for my 12 year old son, who is keen on woodworking. Chris, the host, was very patient and explained everything really well. He kept my son fully engaged throughout the session. After a few test runs, they then worked on a small project and produced a very nice bowl from wood. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone interested in wood turning."

Chris Parker Woodturner responded:

"Hi Paul Thanks for the recommendation Paul it was great to see a young lad with so much enthusiasm & appreciation of our craft. I'm sure Joseph is very proud of the bowl he made & rightly so well done Joseph. "

Julia reviewed: Paint pouring with tea & cake

"Highly recommend this course, run by Dina & her Mum who were both very knowledgeable, supportive & patient. Dina demonstrated three different methods of paint pouring, and then we got down to work choosing our own colours and the styles we wanted to use. By the end of the afternoon we ended up with three lovely canvases. It was amazing to see the different work produced by the group. I mustn’t forget to mention the delicious tea & cakes during the break. Great afternoon."

Mairead (Maggie) Hawker reviewed: Weave an alpaca scarf in a day

"After a long period of being locked away thanks to Covid this was my first venture out to a class and I couldn’t have chosen a better class! To me it felt less like a class and more like a visit to friends. It was one of the best craft courses I’ve ever been on, and I do courses a lot! The course takes place in a beautiful purpose-built workroom in beautiful Shropshire countryside and is easy to find with Satnave/Waze. Immediately you’re made to feel very much at home by the lovely Caroline and Becci and introduced to your loom and equipment. You’re shown how to wind wool onto your shuttle, use your heddle and everything else that comes with weaving your first piece. Teaching is attentive but not intrusive, and both have the patience of Job when inevitably mistakes are made! I’d tinkered with weaving and have my own loom, but still learned so much that I’ve come away with a new confidence and enthusiasm for weaving. At lunchtime you visit the Mill, where wool is processed, and meet the Alpacas, who are the most gorgeous, happy creatures who are obviously very loved and well looked after. There really isn’t anything to fault with this class and I would heartily recommend to new, curious or even experienced weavers. Thank you Caroline and Becci for making the first steps of my lifelong dream so easy to take! "

Clivewood Alpacas responded:

"Thank you Maggie, it was a pleasure to teach you. Looking forward to seeing your future projects. "

Nikki reviewed: Make a silver ring or bangle

"I arrived at Lucy’s workshop earlier this month for a one day beginner course in jewellery making. As a complete novice I was excited but a little apprehensive not knowing what to expect. Lucy immediately put me at ease. Having previously discussed my project via phone calls and email discussions, we got started practising on some scrap copper. Lucy explained the processes in detail prior to demonstrating and then it was my turn. Having practised on the copper, I felt much more confident when starting to work on the silver. I learnt so many new skills and before I knew it the day was over. Lucy was very supportive and provided lots of guidance both before and during the workshop. It was an extremely enjoyable experience and I came away with two lovely unique silver rings which fit perfectly. I had an absolutely fabulous day and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lucy’s workshops. "

Exclusive Jewellery responded:

"Thank you, Nikki, for your detailed review. You have lots of potential - creative hands! I hope you will get an opportunity to come back for another session some day. All best wishes Lucy"

Carol Green reviewed: Weekend Stacking ring making workshop (morning) with Jess at Yardley Arts Northamptonshire

"Had a great morning making stacking rings. Was a little nervous as had never soldered before but Aiden was very helpful and patient. Was really chuffed with myself with what I achieved and can't wait to book another course. The only tiny problem I had was that I have hip problems and could've used a high stool as it was better to stand when working and the chairs were a little low but I would definitely recommend this course."

Beccy Gillatt Jewellery responded:

"Hi Carol, So great to hear that you enjoyed the session. Aiden will be delighted to read your review. Please do ask if you need a different seat as there are a selection in the main room. The chairs are traditionally low and the desks at armpit height for jewellery making to ensure makers don’t hurt their back by bending over and it also brings the work close to eye level to enable fine details to be seen easily."

Sarah looked after us very well in her Tardis of a workshop, giving us a real taster of the equipment, time and skill that goes into jewellery making. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and each came home with a unique pendant to remind us of our day. It was amazing what we achieved in just four hours, credit to the teaching and guidance we received. Nice tea and biscuits too! "
