Introduction To Creative Floorloom Weaving 1-5pm

Description

A four hour introduction to Creative Weaving, a Japanese technique of intuitive weaving on beautiful handmade floorlooms. You will learn about the philosophy behind freestyle weaving in Japan and the basic elements of the looms, warp, weft, tension, bobbins, shuttles and much more. The looms are already set up, so all you have to do is choose your colours and textures as weft. You will create a unique piece of fabric, wall hanging or table runner to take home. Suitable for beginners

"I loved it! Janine is a very good teacher and I was so pleased with the table runner I made. I have never done any weaving before but I found I was able to come to grips with the Saori loom and produce something I was proud of. Highly recommend. "

"My 18 year old daughter and I had THE BEST TIME at this workshop. Janine got us started straight away and then worked in several thoughtful small moments…one to stop for tea and biscuits, and a few others to show us some amazing new techniques. But for the most part it was four straight hours of weaving and we are just head over heels in love with what we made. Heading back to NYC now and will find ways to continue this technique."

"Freeweaver's Saori Taster Workshop is fabulous. Janine is very knowledgeable about the Saori weaving philosophy and techniques. Janine has a very calm and relaxed manner that puts you at ease right away. She has various Saori loom models set up, and I tried them all to see which one felt just right. She has lots of different fibers and colors for you to experiment with. If you want to buy a Saori loom (as I did), she is there to advise you, but otherwise there is no "sales talk"--it is all about the joy and experience of weaving in the Saori way. I recommend this workshop and Freeweaver very highly. Just do it--you will be so happy that you did!"

"Janine runs small classes, and in the beginner's course teaches all the skills required to make your own woven artwork. She also provides a wide range of fibres to experiment with. I made a festive door hanging in my first lesson, which I feel proud of, and am looking forward to my next class. The weaving itself is a relatively simple process but requires concentration. It's your choice how much you experiment with fibres and techniques. The venue for the class is a fairly new craft centre with other interesting things going on alongside, and easily reached on the DLR. I can thoroughly recommend this class. I loved it!"
