Louise Holloway reviewed: Powertex and stone art owl

"We booked this course as a four to celebrate my mum’s birthday and am so glad we did. Jan is absolutely brilliant and was so helpful both with our booking and on the day. We all thoroughly enjoyed the course, and are stupidly proud of what we made. Jan made it such a joyful experience Mum has already dropped a load of not terribly subtle hints that she wants to come back again next year! Thanks Jan - you made a special birthday even more special. "

Feline Fixins Powertex Fun responded:

"Hi Louise, Thank you so much for your lovely review, it was a pleasure to work with you all to achieve your brilliant results. All your owls were so different and all really characterful. It was so rewarding to see you all developing skills to work with Powertex Stoneart Clay. I hope to see you at some time in the future, you would be very welcome."

Bill reviewed: Woodturning for beginners

"Stuart ensures by his 1 to 1 training that it is your course and whether day 1 or 2 He facilitates how you spend your time giving you knowledge and practical experience in a relaxed way at your pace. I was chosing a 1 day course and am glad that I took Stuarts advice and enrolled for 2 days. The first day gave me a good basis to start a new hobby The gap between the 2 days showed up my inexperience and errors making day 2 invaluable Day 2 enabled me to sort out my errors in tool sharpening and I had been using the wrong woodturning chisels on various projects hence results were below par. The 2nd day has renewed my enthusiasm in woodturning and shown me that using the right tools properly sharpened is so important for successful results Thanks Stuart and I recommend that anyone interested in trying woodturning should contact You "

The Scottish Woodturner responded:

"Thanks for the review Bill. So glad you got as much out of your second day as you did the first. "

Sam reviewed: Silver jewellery making class for beginners

"Nice course for beginner. Jonathan explained everything really well. Items are straightforward to make after instruction. Nice environment for learning. We used copper to practice in the morning before moving to silver in the afternoon. You pay for the silver you use however you come with a lovely hand made item. Lovely coffee and cake too. Would recommend this course. "

Salt Way Silver responded:

"Well done Sam - you did very well with your beautiful silver jewellery, and I hope the gift is well received. Thank you for your kind words, and you are always welcome back. Jonathan"

Nicci reviewed: Hare Sculpture workshop with Jo Garden Art in beautiful Norfolk/Suffolk

"Wonderful course - Jo is so organised, kept us all making progress and when the plaster came out, the joint effort between Jo and her husband to keep us all supplied with fresh plaster was like a well oiled machine. They were both so welcoming and helpful, even to the point of moving cars and helping me get my mahoosive hare into my passenger footwell at the end of the day. Very keen to go back and do some more"

Jo Garden Art responded:

"Thank you Nicci! And what an enormous hare you drove away with!!! He was fabulous and big enough to be seen from the moon! It would be lovely to see you back in the studio. Jo xx"

Flora reviewed: Weaving: the journey begins

"I thoroughly enjoyed my weaving session with Ashleigh. The Nest studio is a welcoming space. Ashleigh is a Master Weaver and an excellent teacher. As a beginner I benefited from Ashleigh’s patient and relaxed style of tuition. The loom was ready warped and Ashleigh guided me through enough weave patterns to produce a lovely sampler. It was great to be so hands on as a learner at the loom. He also provided written materials for me to take home. This was especially helpful for reflecting back on the day. I will take another course with Ashleigh and build on what I have learned."

Sammie reviewed: Hare Sculpture workshop with Jo Garden Art in beautiful Norfolk/Suffolk

"I had a fantastic day with Jo at the one day Hare workshop. Everything was so very well organised right down to the parking system ! Jo ( and Alan) were on hand to help and ask questions. Everything was explained beautifully by Jo so even as a novice the course was easy to follow. Refreshments always available and packed lunch was taken in the kitchen whilst Jo organised the afternoon. I absolutely love my hare and would love to visit again to create something similar and equally as beautiful. If I had to make a slight negative comment -but it did not impinge on my enjoyment at all was it was a compact course to finish on time - possibly as most people had medium sized hares to complete, it felt very slightly rushed at the end to finish in a day. “Hartley “ is sitting in my kitchen table at the moment where hubby and I can easily admire him. He has had plenty of offers for a new home via friends on social media … he’s definitely not going anywhere! Thank you so much Jo "

Jo Garden Art responded:

"Thank you Sammie - just keep hold of Hartley! You can see why one of the other delegates at the workshop is a regular (making a family of hares!). I do appreciate your comment about the extended day. It's a busy workshop, but we nearly always finish on time (4.30 - 5pm). However, the weather and a range of other little things, meant Sunday's workshop overran a little. My apologies if this caused a hiccup with your timing. It would be great to see you back again, perhaps to make your lurcher! Jo xx"

Andy Pyne reviewed: Metalwork Craft weekend with The Iron Lady - Bradwell Blacksmiths

"This course is simply excellent. Natalie is a natural teacher - very patient, positive & relaxed but instantly there to help either with advice, instruction or assistance if required. The balance of being left to experiment on your own within your own space and being supported and supervised was just right. The range of techniques and equipment is extensive - much more than I was expecting - welding, cutting, forging, bending, folding, drilling, grinding etc etc. If I had to give advice to potential attendees, I'd say have a few ideas as to what you might do for a project. Natalie will make suggestions, but having something of your own in mind before hand saves searching your imagination on the day. There were 6 students with diverse experience at the course and everyone went home with totally different individual completed projects. It's a busy, and satisfyingly exhausting day - Oh, and lots of laughs too. "

The Makershed responded:

"Many thanks Graham, I'm really glad you enjoyed the course!"

Lizzy Davis reviewed: DIY Wood Workshop Leeds

"We attended the beginners woodwork class with Sami and it exceeded all our expectations! The day was jam packed with information (we even brought a little notebook to make notes 😂) including lots of tips and advice on where to source materials and tools, not just a demonstration of the tools in workshop. Sami specifically uses tools that you can either buy from standard DIY merchants or rent, so that you can put your skills to practice after the class. I chose the class because of the breadth of skills it covers (using a mitre/chop saw, hand sander, power tools such as electric screwdrivers and drills, using wood filler and wood stain) and I came away feeling very confident in applying all of these to my own DIY projects. We were also able to ask plenty of questions, so if you had a DIY project in mind Sami can give you advice on how to approach it, and it’s just so handy to be able to speak face to face with and expert. I didn’t feel like any question was too small or stupid, and what we learned in 8 hours would have taken me days if not weeks of studying YouTube videos and getting confused and defeated. Also lovely location and hospitality! I was fully expecting a dingy cold workshop with a tiny toilet 😂 but the 1912 mill is a lovely arts and culture spot, very clean and tidy and we’d love more time to explore it (we are from out of town so just came for the day). We were in a group of 5 so there was lots of time and we didn’t feel rushed (even if I didn’t quite finish my project oops!). Nice friendly vibe amongst us and was nice to chat to each other, plus a lovely spread out on for lunch by Sami of sandwiches, quiche, crisps and nibbly bits 😋 plus tea, coffee and biscuits available throughout the day. Thank you so much Sami! 🙏"
