Jack reviewed: Spoon Carving - Sloyd Workshop

"This course was absolutely brilliant, my wife and I had an amazing time. Max was the best instructor, he explained everything clearly and in a very relaxed manner. It was easy to tell how passionate he is about wood and spoon carving and this really elevated the day. He constantly checked in on our progress as we all carved the spoons together. The lunch over the fire was also brilliant, a nice touch to the day. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about learning to carve a spoon. "

Steve Gough reviewed: Lathe turning for beginners with Thompsons Wood

"I would like to thank you Jake for an amazing day where I learnt so much and came away confident to start using my lathe. I went in to this course with no lathe experience however, I am practically minded. I have a lathe but wanted to understand how to start making things correctly from an expert and not from misguiding youtube videos.. Jake provided this the whole day I was there. We had plenty of laughs along the way which was great and I came away with confidence, a great deal of knowledge and two wonderful items made on the lathe. When you work out the cost of this course per hour against any other trade, you fully understand the great value for money the day is. I’m sure I will be back for more in the future and all that remains for me to say is thank you Jake. Appreciated!"

Thompsons Wood responded:

"Thank you a million times over Steve, it was a lovely day and you did make some lovely pieces, be a pleasure to have you back whenever the feeling takes you! "

We had a wonderful few hours with Rowena, such a lovely lady, who demonstrated making a bowl and then guiding us through each step with many laughs along the way to make a couple of bowls each. Stephen Bartley reviewed: Beginner OR Intermediate Woodworking Full Day Course - Saturdays

"This has everything you want in a course. A great teacher, lots of practical projects to get stuck into, and that feeling at the end of the day that you just learned a ton of stuff. You start simple and gradually get into more complicated joinery. By the end of the day you’re using skills you learned earlier to do things that previously were a mystery to you. Like dovetails. I can now make a dovetail. Ray is a great teacher. As well as being extremely friendly and welcoming, he is a patient teacher and knows his subject inside out. He’ll also make you a cup of tea. It’s a great place to learn techniques that have been used for hundreds of years. I can’t recommend the course enough. I came home eager to try out what I’d learned. "

River reviewed: English longbow making weekend in the heart of Nailsworth Gloucestershire

"I entered this course having had almost no woodworking experience, but the instructors were great and guided me through every step of the process. Not only do you leave with a longbow which you made yourself but also many great tips and a good understanding on how to maintain your longbow and keep it in good shape. On top of it being really fun and good value the money goes towards a good cause as these courses subsidies the workshop which is used to help special needs children during term time. I would 100% recommend."
