Claire Bell reviewed: PickOne weekend weaving course

"A great weave workshop. Thought I knew the basics but James taught me so much over the course of the weekend from initial warping to colour/pattern relationships. Fascinating, and a completely new way of thinking about fabric construction for me. Nothing was too much trouble. A studio that is greatly resourced with beautiful wools, yarns and publications too. I was delighted with my finished piece and would highly recommend. I’m looking forward to booking my next course."

Gillian reviewed: Fabulous felt picture 2 day masterclass near York

"What a wonderful experience. I was a complete novice to painting with wool but managed to produce a picture I am proud to frame and hang. Bridget was welcoming, as were the rest of the ladies in the group, enthusiastic and happy to share her knowledge and skills. Yes sometimes you had to wait for her time but I had bought a group experience so realised this would be the case. I have already recommended her to a friend and we have booked another weekend."

"What a wonderful couple of days we've had at Pheonix studios! Just finished the 2-day weekend wire sculpture course. James is great - relaxed, encouraging, really keen to understand what you're trying to build and then guide you through it. The studio is lovely - bright, spacious, with all the kit you might need. And the atmosphere was great - friendly & fun. Would thoroughly recommend!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed this Silver Jewellery workshop. The tutor was excellent and very patient and encouraging. I was delighted with my results and it has certainly inspired me to get more tuition in the art of silver smithing. The Greystoke cafe certainly looked after us with a lovely lunch and superb refreshments. It was certainly one of the best workshops I have been on"

Marga Schnell reviewed: Mosaic and Glass Art 2 day Course

"It has been an excellent experience to work and learn from Maggie and be in an amazing space with other enthusiastic people. Being an Artist myself with a fair amount of teaching behind me, I especially value and appreciate the input and preparation which greeted us and the detailed instruction of tools, material which took place. Each one of us participants got personal attention, given advice without hindering our own ideas and creativity throughout the two days. Maggie you are an inspiration and your enthusiasm gives inspiration beyond the time we spend in your workshop. Thank you so much."

"Absolutely wonderful day, can't wait to see the results. Kim and Sharon were soooo patient and just lovely hostesses. Carl reviewed: One to one, One day, blacksmith course

"The one day course was booked as a birthday present as it’s something I’ve always wanted to try and have a taster of. Alex was welcoming and helpful with the designs and very informative. I had a great day and was tired by the end of it but had a huge smile because of what we had achieved. The day flew by! Highly recommended."

Helen Hyland reviewed: Feltmaking - OOH the choices!

"Today I completed my second wet felting class and thoroughly enjoyed it! I made a shoulder bag and was very happy with the finished product. Barbara is a great teacher and as well as giving very clear instructions, she has lots of examples and suggestions for whatever piece you are making. The classes are fun and very relaxed. I can highly recommend taking a wet felting course with Barbara and I look forward to taking another in the near future. Thank you Barbara!"

Jayne Ashton reviewed: Feltmaking - OOH the choices!

"A really great course today. My first time at wet felting and I came home with a really nice unique nuno felted silk scarf - far better than I ever expected. The class was small and everyone received individual attention. I learnt a new skill from an expert. Barbara is very patient and makes everyone feel very relaxed. I would highly recommend this and any other course that Barbara runs, others on the day wet felted small hand bags which also looked fun"

Feltworld - Creative Arts responded:

"Thank you very much for your kind review Jayne. You are the star who produced a fabulous piece of unique work :-) and as a first time felter, your scarf is beautiful. Best regards Barbara Meek"

"Excellent day today, making a wet felted shoulder bag. I’m really pleased with the finished product. Barbara is a superb teacher, and has brilliant ideas. Classes are small, so that you get expert one-to-one tuition. This is the second class I have attended, I made a wet felted picture on the first occasion, again an enjoyable experience."

Julia & Matt reviewed: Candle making workshops

"Wow - an incredible day! Arriving on a wet and windy day, we were immediately welcomed into Angharads traditional Welsh home with tea and biscuits and after a quick talk about what the day would entail, we went to the workshop and began. Angharad is incredibly knowledgeable and an excellent teacher and In just a few hours we had made a great selection of pillar and container candles working with a range of waxes. Both of us left inspired and relaxed and having had a great deal of fun. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone and very much hope to return!"

Torie reviewed: Introduction to Frame Loom Weaving

"Alice is a very creative little being. She provided a welcoming and warm environment, spent equal time with each of us and provided encouragement throughout the day. As someone who hasn’t attended a workshop on their own before I personally found it an achievement that was made so much easier by her kindness and positivity. I can’t wait to learn Macrame with her next week! (Yes I booked two courses) - she’s just that good!"

Jude Glide reviewed: Wire & mixed media sculpture courses with James Ort

"I absolutely loved this course. Having never worked with wire before I was over-the-moon with the sculpture I created. I did A level art in 1978, before James was even born!! & since then have been too busy working as a Nurse to be an artist. This course has certainly given me food for thought & I will definitely book on another course. James is a fabulous tutor with a warm personality. The studio is the perfect environment, peaceful, light & comfortable. Thank you."

Bobby Terry reviewed: Blacksmithing Introduction courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"What a brilliant way to spend a day....and to come home with two items that I could be proud of. A key ring and a dragon 3 hook coat hanger. My husband was also with me so a little bit of competition was going on as well! Interesting to learn new techniques with very helpful instructions and clear demonstration but with out them intruding into your learning experience but there when needed. Catering was excellent... few pounds heavier as Debbie makes an excellent flapjack besides a great lunch. Would highly recommend a go, lots of fun, hard work but fulfilling."

Jeremy Swift reviewed: One to one, One day, blacksmith course

"I just had another one-day course with Alex, having made a ram's head poker some years ago. This time I sent him my own design for a pan rack to hang in my kitchen and he agreed we could make it in a day. Alex suggested reducing the bar thickness which added a degree of delicacy that enhanced the resulting object. Alex has a great way of teaching: demonstrating a technique and then letting the pupil get on with it without being overly controlling. Just the right amount of advice is given. My design has two bars with symmetrical tapered scrolls at the ends so I had to make four identical scrolls. Needless to say, I made lots of mistakes and corrections. In the initial demo, Alex showed me how to make corrections as well as the basic bending techniques: once I started making I felt no pressure from him even as I bent, corrected, re-bent and re-corrected many, many times. As a result I was able to learn from my mistakes and by the fourth scroll felt I was starting to understand the metal. Great outcome. Nice, this time, to learn some two-man techniques (forming tenons, punching holes and joining the pieces) too. And, in the end, the pan rack's not bad either!"

Sue reviewed: Mosaic pendant making on Orkney

"I attended the Mosaics course in Higherford Mill yesterday. Catherine was a very good tutor and even though I struggled at the start (don’t let that put you off!), Catherine was very helpful & I managed to produce a lovely heart. I haven’t had time yet to grout my heart, but am looking forward to seeing the finished article very soon. I was a total beginner and would recommend this course to everyone. Thoroughly enjoyable day."

Gillian reviewed: Mosaic and Glass Art 2 day Course

"Thank you Maggie for a super weekend of creative fun. In a world where we all need to stop buying new, and be creative with old stuff, this was the perfect solution. I’m off to restore a sad old table top, and now have some new skills to give it a go. And the friendship and talent input from my 3 fellow workshopeers who each added to the enjoyment. Go Maggie!"
