Nick Alexander reviewed: Wood turning courses

"Dear George. Thanks very much for your and your wife's hospitality yesterday. The course was very informative, and as an absolute beginner at wood turning it was a real pleasure to create a beautiful finished bowl - which has been much admired by friends and neighbours, and most importantly, my wife! I am sure that you are correct to keep the numbers of students to a minimum. The constant flow of information and advice , and of course the demonstrations and " hands on" practical work, is much better when you provide virtually individual attention. Nick."

paul reviewed: Traditional Saddle Stitching with Armitage Leather

"I took a 4 day introduction to leather work course, as I was an absolute beginner and wanted to see if I liked leather work as a way to relax away from my day job. I chose Nigel, as I wanted to learn the correct more traditional techniques, and after looking on YouTube etc, thought he was the best person to learn from. I wasn't wrong. Nigel is patient, witty and an extremely gifted teacher, putting you at ease straight away and making the days fly by. The instruction is thoroughly explained, with lots of tool options to try - especially useful if you are left handed like myself. The course far exceeded my expectations, so I am now looking to purchase some tools and get practising before a return visit for the next set of instructions. As people have said previously, it is also the knowledge that you can get in touch after the course has finished which is extremely important. Thank you for making for the days richly enjoyable and I left with a beautiful wallet and pouch."

Ann Fewtrell reviewed: Introduction to woodturning: one to one

"A friend and I, both complete novices, had a great day of wood turning with Bill, he’s a patient teacher who gets the balance of showing/teaching/helping just right. He’s got a really well set up workshop so no hanging around waiting for a piece of equipment to be available. We are both ridiculously proud of our creations and would happily go back to learn more - highly recommended."

"A warm welcome kicked off a great day. I walked in not knowing one end of a cow from another and left inspired to make a set of Louis Vuitton luggage. A very rewarding course covering a lot of hands on stuff. Slim is a brill teacher, no pressure, takes you through everything methodically at your own pace all coaxed along with plenty of tea and biscuits and a beautiful lunch. A very hospitable host. Thanks again Slim for an extremely enjoyable and productive day."

Chris Wheatley reviewed: Learn to carve wooden spoons, beginners and improvers

"What a great course, ran by an excellent teacher. Although I’m an occasional whittler I’ve never been any good at carving spoons. I learnt loads on this course, not only about carving spoons but about carving & axe and knife techniques in general. And what an amazing location. It seemed fitting to be carving in a yurt in a field."

Rosie reviewed: Regular ceramic & glazing tuition and pottery wheel workshops Shetland

"We attended Sonje's pottery class for a girl's day out! We were both beginners having never created with pottery before. Sonje was very kind and let us create pieces that we liked, including using the lovely pottery wheel. We could work at our own pace and Sonje gave us very good advice to improve our pieces! Thanks again."

Kevin Watters reviewed: Introduction to woodturning: one to one

"My 11 year old son and I spent a very enjoyable day with Bill at his well equipped workshop on the Introduction to Woodturning course. I was a bit apprehensive that the course would not be suited to my son but Bill worked really well with him and was very patient as he created a Harry Potter style wand. I turned a shallow bowl to use as a wallet/coin tray and at every stage, Bill explained to us the difference in effect depending on the wood used, the grain, the tools, the lathe speed, etc. I can't imagine anyone being able to be more informative and helpful than Bill, who seems to do with ease something that I experienced to be rather more challenging. This was a really good introduction and I will use the advice given, hopefully to good effect, in terms of equipment to buy. I strongly suspect, that we will be back with Bill at some point to help us take that next step."

Kiera reviewed: An introduction to hand embroidery : sew your own hoop art

"I booked on Hannah's embroidery course with my mum on Mother's Day and we both had such a lovely and relaxing afternoon. Hannah is a fountain of knowledge for anything arts and craftsy. I absolutely love her designs as they are original and unique. Hannah is so patient and the small group size meant that no one in the group got left behind. From not knowing anything about embroidery or sewing in general, I'm now confident with a range of stitches that I can use at home. I can't recommend it enough. I will definitely be back!"

Bev Williams reviewed: Table Loom Weaving Workshop - Dobby & Rose

"We first met Rebecca at Farnham Maltings, displaying her wonderful wares. I subsequently ordered a beautiful lampshade for my daughter’s Christmas present. This was personally delivered by Rebecca, who was concerned about the reliability of the post. Thank you! My daughter and I then spent an interesting morning with Rebecca, which flew past, learning to weave on an 8 saddle loom. We had only woven on simple looms before, so were excited to produce some great patterns, the diagonal being my favourite. As the looms were already warped up, after some instruction, we could move onto weaving our samples. Of course, we are now eager to learn how to warp up the loom. Another workshop seems to be on the cards or perhaps the purchase of a Louet! Thank you Rebecca for inspiring us!"

Brian Halton reviewed: Premium experience package dry stone walling for beginners

"An excellent course with lots of good fun and chat mixed with real hands-on experience. The lads are patient teachers and are great at instructing us "would be" novice wallers. The wild and unspoilt location is fantastic, but tea and lunch breaks are delivered with tablecloth / napkins and panache....yes even up the mountains!!! Congratulation on the course, would love to return for another."
