Lyn Weller reviewed: Abstract Architecture: mixed media: Peak District, Derbyshire

"My partner and I attended Pam's Autumn Sketchbook course last year. The studio is bright and airy with a beautiful view, and we had a very enjoyable day exploring different sketching techniques with an autumn theme. The first task was to make our own sketchbook and this was a really good ice breaker to overcome any worries about our abilities. We experimented with Brusho to produce some altered papers with an autumnal colour theme, which we used to make the cover of our sketch book, as well keeping some to one side for some collage later in the afternoon. We then used different leaves, seed heads, fruit and vegetables as inspiration to create autumnal sketches using different techniques and mediums in our books. Watercolour, acrylic, pencil, fibre pens, stick pens with dipping ink and collage were all explored as we worked on a range of different surfaces with Pam giving clear demonstrations and guidance at every stage. Pam took photos of our work as it progressed and at the end of the afternoon she had turned these into a 5 minute film show so that we could enjoy everyone's work. The day was well structured and paced and suitable for all levels, and Pam's tuition and the materials used were excellent. We both came away with a sketchbook to be proud of and I have since added further sketches to complete the book. Having enjoyed this course we booked on two further courses with Pam. I mustn't forget to mention the wonderful lunch that Pam provides as well! We would both highly recommend Pam's workshops - an enjoyable day out with a tangible and satisfying outcome."

Pam Smart Studio responded:

"To Lyn and Phil Thank you for such wonderful comments and for taking the time to write such a detailed review of the workshop. I’m really pleased you enjoyed the activities and the lunch! Hope to see you again soon. Best wishes Pam Smart"

Jenni Geddes reviewed: Art holiday in Snowdonia (5 nights)

"I attended this course in 2019. It is a superb venue with inspiring views out of every window. We were able to explore the landscape to make sketches and photographs. I particularly enjoyed the slate mine and abandoned cottages. Donna demonstrated a variety of expressive styles and media for us to create our own interpretations. It was good to share our ideas and discuss plans over wonderful meals together. The constantly changing cloudscape out of the windows or outside on a bench, gave wonderful moments of reflection. I travelled by train to Bangor, then collected by Donna, which was very good for a non- car owner."

Sally Baines reviewed: Abstract Architecture: mixed media: Peak District, Derbyshire

"I took the Introduction to Acrylics course run by Pam Smart last year and it was excellent and well structured, as well as varied in the activities provided. The tutor started with guiding us through a useful exercise explaining the various marks on paper that different types of brushes produce. This was then followed by an exercise to produce a colour chart, which we completed ourselves by mixing the appropriate colours according to her explanations and instructions. Pam had prepared a circle chart on an A3 sheet (which I have pinned up in my craft room now.) We also did a painted exercise and a larger piece in the afternoon. Because of Pam’s careful guidance, a fair degree of success was achieved at each stage. I can highly recommend this, and other courses of Pam’s ( such as the Landscapes ) and trust you will have a most enjoyable day with great lunch, and the experience of a very skilled teacher, with nice calm, positive approach."

Pam Smart Studio responded:

"Hi Sally Thank you for such kind comments. I’m very pleased that you had an enjoyable day and I look forward to seeing you on the next course. Best wishes Pam Smart"

"We did the 3 stacked silver ring workshop which was exceptionally well taught and resourced. I was so pleased with the silver rings I produced and got to take home with me. Rachel paced the day perfectly and gave us enough guidance but plenty of time and freedom for creativity. I hope we can book a similar jewellery making event again soon."

Liz Kelly reviewed: Colourful stained glass panel making course

"I had a great day at Jo's studio in July last year. She explained everything really well and was very patient which made me feel at ease. I came home full of ideas and enthusiasm, with a beautiful stained glass panel that now hangs in my pear tree. Everyone who has seen it thinks it looks great, although I must admit it was more fiddly than I had imagined. It was definitely a day of feeding the soul and therefore I would highly recommend booking a course with Jo."

Jo Snowdon Stained Glass responded:

"Hi Liz, thank you for a great review, I'm so glad you enjoyed the day! You rose to the challenge very well and I'm glad you came away feeling enthused. Kind regards, Jo ?"

James shaw reviewed: Blacksmithing Introduction courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"Great day out, didn’t really know what to expect but on arrival was greeted with warm conversation and a very relaxed atmosphere. Great starter course and left me wanting more. Food and service outstanding from Debbie. And last but not at all least Adrian and Andy, top top men who know exactly what they are doing. They help you accomplish two pieces of metal art that by first look you are thinking, 'I’ll not be able to do that', but Adrian takes you through a step by step demonstration of how. The lads are on hand anytime the doubt creeps in or just lost on what steps are next. Must do!!"

Michelle Finch reviewed: Explore your camera part 1 - Get off Auto

"I really enjoyed the course but felt that for me a smaller group would have been better as you could then recieve more one to one."

Going Digital Devon and Cornwall responded:

"I'm so pleased you enjoyed the course Michelle and thank you for your feedback it is greatly appreciated. With regard to group size, I have already significantly reduced the group size by 20% for a better individual experience but obviously there remains a limit to group size and viability. I always have and always will do my utmost to ensure that all participants get as much individual attention as I can share between the needs of the group as a whole... Thanks again Michelle I look forward to seeing you on our next part 2 course in a couple of weeks."
