Description
3 day session for beginners, improvers and those with a project. 6 people max. Bring your own project and your choice of top fabric. This is a group session with people working on their own projects, limited to 6 people to ensure that everyone gets attention. I will be guiding people through modern and traditional upholstery techniques, answering questions and sharing information across the projects, the aim is that everyone learns from the collective experience. Not all projects will be completed within the 3 days, it depends on the individual project, the technical difficulty, the state of repair, the finish required, the experience, confidence and speed at which the individual student works. However, I will endeavour to explain and reference techniques and means by which projects can be independently completed where necessary. It is ideal as taster session for anyone keen to try their hand at upholstery, improve and build on existing skills, & for those who want to complete a more labour intensive project. Venue: Westgate Chapel, Lewes Hight Street, Ground floor access space and for this course projects can be left at the venue for the duration of the 3 day workshop. 9.30-4.30, 1 hr break for lunch. A few things to note: - Please send me a photo of your project so I can confirm whether it is suitable prior to booking. You can do so via the 'message the tutor' button. - Please avoid velvet & leather. - Dependent on the project you may need to strip your piece of furniture down prior to the workshop. - Everyone will have their own set of hand tools for use during the course. We will be sharing electric staplers, sewing machine and sharing the cutting table. I've had lots of requests for this course from people who have attended my '1 day make your own upholstered Footstool' and '1 day bring your own project workshops' - have a look at the reviews. Lewes is easy to reach from London, (1hr with trains every 30 mins) and is 15 mins from Brighton by regular trains. There are several places to stay in Lewes overnight, including many AirBNB's, a Premier Inn and the recently refurbished White Hart Inn with 22 boutique rooms. I think that’s it!

Maker
I live in Lewes, and have been running a furniture and textile business making simply designed contemporary pieces. One of those pieces, the birch wood footstool is an especial delight to make, it is simple, useful, light & beautiful. With none of the corners that so frustrate upholstery newcomers, I thought it made the perfect 1 day workshop experience. For after a ‘hard’ day learning, making, laughing, creating you get to take home and put your feet up on a foostool, and say “That was Rounded by Me’.
