Description
Sustainable Water Management Workshop Learn how to work with the landscape to manage water simply, effectively, and affordably. This one-day, hands-on workshop explores practical, low-tech techniques to slow, store, and make better use of water on your land—ideal for farmers, smallholders, growers, community projects, and anyone managing land in a changing climate. Through a guided walk and demonstrations, we’ll cover: - How to design and build swales (on and off contour). - Creating wildlife ponds and leaky dams. - Using spring water to cool polytunnels. - Reading the land: contours, keylines, and water planning. - Tools for marking contours: laser level, A-frame & bunyip. - Group Q&A and discussion throughout the day. About the Tutors: Tom Clare is an agroforestry consultant and educator with years of experience designing tree-based systems that integrate water management, soil building, and productivity. He runs Pembrokeshire Agroforestry with his partner Jacqui, developing a 10-acre site into a model of regenerative, low-input land use. Jacqui Banks manages the day-to-day operations of the site, including grazing, planting, and water systems. She brings practical insight into what works (and what doesn’t) when putting low-tech ideas into practice on real land. What to Expect: This is an active, outdoor course with real-world demonstrations. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of how to begin designing or improving water systems on your own land using simple tools and natural features. Requirements: - You must be physically able to walk on uneven ground. - Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy boots. - Bring a packed lunch and a bottle of water.
