X

Description

This is a 2-day course which takes place on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th August. 10am - 4pm both days. Join Siân Lester to discover how to re-dye and renew textile clothing using foraged and garden waste materials in this two day course. During this two day course you will learn how to: - Mordant (prepare cloth for dyeing) with alum mordant and alum lactate. - Forage for and identify plants to dye with looking at what is in season and in abundance. - Prepare foraged plants and create natural dyes. - Prepare food waste such as onion skins to create natural dyes. - Dye sample fabrics using the natural dye baths - we will ask you to bring along some cloth that is cotton/silk or wool, and has been washed well prior to the event - more details will be emailed to you. - Dyeing using solar jars, a technique that does not require heat. You will be asked to bring along a piece of fabric made from cotton, silk or wool, any onion skins you have in your food waste (red or white!) and any spare cotton/wool fabric for solar dyeing. All other materials are provided. You may wish to bring along a notepad and pen. Some of this course will happen outside, although we have a covered veranda please ensure you dress for the weather. We suggest wearing closed toe shoes. This course is part of our up-skill and up-cycle series and generously funded by The Ashley Foundation. For a multitude of reasons the world is not always a fair and balanced place. With that in mind, we recognise the economic disparity present and want to help remove financial barriers to learning. We can offer free places for those who are facing financial hardship. Our definition of financial hardship is those who are finding it hard to meet essential everyday costs such as food and shelter, those who may rely on benefits or who have been long term unemployed. To request a free ticket, please get in touch via the 'message the tutor' button outlining why you are eligible.
