Get hands-on with molten metal in this exciting one-day sand casting workshop! In this jam-packed day, you’ll learn how to create beautiful jewellery using the ancient technique of sand casting – a method you can even continue at home with minimal kit. Working with silver (or brass or gold if you prefer), you’ll explore how to cast objects by pressing them into special casting sand to form a mould, then pouring molten metal to create your piece. We’ll start by casting a natural object, like a twig or shell, to show you the basics. Then you’ll move on to carving a simple design in wax and casting it yourself – a brilliant intro to both sand casting and wax work, and a great way to produce completely unique pieces. This one-day course runs from 10am–5pm and is suitable for total beginners – no experience needed. If you’ve already done a wax carving class with us, great – but it’s definitely not required! What you’ll learn: - How the sand casting process works. - How to prepare and heat a crucible safely. - Using flux in metal casting. - Pouring molten metal into a mould. - Finishing and polishing your cast jewellery. By the end of the day, you'll have 1–2 finished pieces of jewellery to take home, along with all the know-how to keep experimenting. We keep class sizes small (maximum 8 people), so you’ll get lots of support and one-on-one time with our brilliant tutors. What to bring: Nothing at all – we provide all tools, materials, and safety gear. Just wear comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes. As with all our classes, we include materials in the course price and keep you fuelled with tea, coffee and snacks throughout the day.
