Raku pottery at Cowshed Creative in the Lake District National Park near Kendal and Windermere
Description
A genuine RAKU experience involving making, glazing and firing your own pots to create unique patterns and designs on your pieces. This course takes place across two consecutive Wednesdays - 2 & 9th July. The first day you will develop hand-building skills to create a range of pots or models. These will be dried and biscuit fired ready for you to experiment with glazes and oxides the following week. You will be amazed at the quality and quantity of pieces you can create. On the consecutive Saturday, prepare for an exciting session working with an outdoor kiln with controlled use of fire and smoke! ‘Raku’ loosely means ‘happiness in the unexpected’. The effects you can achieve can be stunning. No prior experience needed but those with experience will have lots of opportunities to develop their skills. Chris Barnes is a renowned professional potter from the Borders who exhibits across the UK and in Germany. He has taught both adults and young people for many years alongside his own creative practice. His teaching combines hands on practical work with demonstrations and useful expert tips. This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm. All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience.
