Description

Level: Beginner and up Create a lovely book of autumn, layering images of leaves and seedheads from gelli plate prints, monoprints and handmade stamps; then collage the elements together in a simple concertina book to create a unique, mixed media piece of work. Using a variety of hand-printed and collaged elements we will work through a series of stages creating layers, adding in washes of paint, plus a bit of dripping and spattering! Having constructed an interesting base we will then work in a combination of transfer, paint & print using a limited colour palette to create our book pages. This is a very organic and forgiving process - at any stage more paint, prints or collage can be added and reworked until you’re happy with the final result. We will be working in a handmade concertina book as a way of holding all our ideas and techniques, which becomes not only a great reference book, but also a beautiful object in its own right. There will be lots of step-by-step demos and individual help in this fun & lively workshop. No experience needed. Just bring a big apron and a willingness to experiment and play! What to bring: Drawing pencil, biro, scissors and/or craft knife Matt medium (the gel sort) or PVA glue or a gluestick Acrylic paints – the tutor will also bring some to share amongst the group Mixing palette – a plate or tear-off palette is fine Brushes if you have any – the tutor will also bring some Small leaves with well defined shapes / veins (ferns are great) Reference of seedheads / flowers / plants for inspiration Paper – any assorted papers for collage that you might like to use e.g text, patterned paper, tissue paper (you only need small amounts) We will be doing a small amount of printing from gel plates - the tutor will bring book-size A6 plates for this – if you have a larger plate of your own please feel free to bring it. A packed lunch
