Cultivating Nature: how to enhance woodlands for biodiversity
Description
Join us this May for a walk and talk as we discuss how to enhance land, wood and field for the benefit of nature. This walk will be of help to those looking at how to manage their own land or woodland for biodiversity, those interested in the ecology of the woods, and those with general interest in the flora and fauna of an ancient woodland. We will be talking about: - The flora and fauna of woods: unusual examples and why they are there. - Light and its importance to trees and the woodland floor. - Managing open spaces - how to do it and what to expect. - The annual cycle of birds, flowers and seeds, insects and fungi. - Dead hedges and the life they bring. Clair is one of the woodland managers at Voltaire's Wood, with responsibility for aspects of Countryside Stewardship work. She is our little powerhouse of knowledge and information. This isn't a strenuous outing but you will need to have a moderate level of fitness for this event as you will be out in the woods on uneven terrain for a couple of hours at a time. We will take a break for tea and sandwiches halfway.
