Ceramic raku workshops at The Potting Shed
Description
This workshop is over two dates - July 29th and August 19th 6-8pm Raku ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, most often in the form of chawan tea bowls. Raku firing is a process in which ceramic work is removed from the kiln at bright red heat and subjected to post-firing reduction (or smoking) by being placed in containers of combustible materials, which blackens raw clay and causes crazing in the glaze surface. This Western raku firing process has a huge draw for many potters because of its excitement and unpredictability. In the two evening sessions you will make two/three ceramic pieces by hand on the first session using a hand building technique and on the second session you will decorate them with raku glazes and fire them in the Raku kiln. Your pieces will be ready to take home at the end of the second session. The ticket price covers both sessions.
What's included in the price?
You will fire up to 3 pieces that we will glaze and fire in the second session. The price includes clay, glazes and firing.
