Brian Goodey reviewed: Spoon carving (Two Day)

"Morning after Martin's spoon making course, coping with upper body aches so it must have been good exercise. Never too old to learn to do something properly what I wanted from Martin's course was a safe introduction to the effective use of axe and knife for shaping and carving techniques previously assembled at random. The course provided exactly what Martin advertised in a small group (4) workshop situation. Everything and especially hands on advice were good, though inevitably time ran out Martin is a committed creative craftsman who leaves you with new knowledge and respect for edges, and evidence of your work to amaze relatives who wondered what you were doing. A full value weekend ... the Clarksonesque observations are worth waiting for."

Sue Webber reviewed: Make a silver ring or bangle

"Lucy has an extensive knowledge that covers a wide range of tecniques in many different metals. Her guidance & patience has given me the confidence to achieve a number of projects covering the more difficult aspects of silver-smithing. Since my early 20's I have had a hankering to learn the art & now at the age of 65 I feel priveliged to have found a highly qualified mentor. I look forward to each session in Lucy's fully equipped workshop. It is a tranquil space full of inspiration & knowledge."

Pat reviewed: Spoon carving (Two Day)

"We enjoyed the whittling course so much last year, we booked the spoon making course and weren't disappointed. Fascinating, practical and great fun to learn, Martin shares his green wood skills with enthusiasm and care and helps you to achieve so much in a very short time. All tools, materials and ideas are provided; along with fab home cooked food to make the time really enjoyable and relaxing."

Eamonn Townsend reviewed: Introduction to Leather Craft

"I attended this course as a complete beginner to leather work, I had been interested in constructing items previously but didn't have the confidence or knowledge on where to start. This course gave me the basic knowledge and ability to progress. Having made two items on the course weekend, I've now completed two other smaller projects on my own and am planning others. Bill is a very experienced, pragmatic tutor - we discussed a list of tools that were essential for leather work along with a list that were beneficial but not essential to start with. If there was a simple cost-effective alternative that you could use to begin with, Bill pointed us in the right direction. The course took us through how to produce the basic design patterns, cutting out, assembly and finishing. With a small number of attendees, Bill is able to give one on one advice and guidance. I would unreservedly recommend attending this course to anyone wishing to learn the basics of leatherworking."

Frances Johnson reviewed: Making a stained glass art hanging

"I attended the class not knowing anything and came home with a light catcher I am immensely proud of! Caryl is a very good teacher and is patient and helpful and I now feel that I am able to have a go myself at home. My family are amazed at what I've achieved and I think I will be making a few presents for people when Christmas comes! I can't recommend Caryl enough if you are thinking of having a go, the place is very easy to get to and with a light lunch thrown in it's a totally enjoyable day!"

Alison Tanner reviewed: Weekend upholstery courses - Oxfordshire & Berkshire Borders

"Just returned from this fantastic weekend course. Philip is an amazing tutor and I learnt such a great deal in a short space of time. The course content is as varied as those attending and this allows you to witness many elements of upholstery that you wouldn't be able to with your project alone. Philip's teaching style encourages you to make your own decisions with your project whilst providing expert advice and support. The weekend is very hands on with time to stop and watch a demonstration on another attendee's project. Using the tools Philip kindly provided was an education in itself, in addition I now know what an essential basic tool kit consists of as I used each and every one. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this course to beginners or advanced alike. I will be returning in the near future. Now off to source some more furniture for my next course with Philip........."

Anne Ardern reviewed: Ceramic moon gazing hares

"Linda is a great patient teacher. She coped with my over enthusiastic approach to life with aplomb. I loved her step by step way of teaching allowing students of every skill level to creat a very credible Hare. She was not a clock watcher allowing the class to overun and helping a traffic stuck latecomer catch up and learn. The cake and tea was welcoming and enjoyable too i will be returning soon as i can get a gang together for the soon to be announced weekday classes."

Laura reviewed: Introduction to anticlastic raising workshop

"I couldn't recommend this course higher! Jonathan is an absolute pleasure to be taught by, he is very patient, able to cater to needs, very informative. The experience I had was a hands on course and came away with two copper pieces, one silver and a piece from fold forming. The whole day is so much fun!!! I started this course with absolutely no idea what I was walking into and walked away with a bank of knowledge and a thirst to learn so much more. Like said above couldn't recomend any higher! Also included was a very tasty lunch!"

Rebecca reviewed: Two day leather bag making workshop

"We spent two very enjoyable days with Rosanna during the summer, in a lovely setting with delicious food, learning new skills and making our bags. Rosanna helped us develop our ideas before we even started and then guided us through the different stages of construction, teaching us new skills along the way. We both had such fun that we are already planning our next projects and will be in touch with Rosanna to help us with these."

Graham Baxter reviewed: Wood turning tuition, New Forest, Hampshire (1 day) (2 people)

"In the past I have never had any confidence with woodwork, therefore I was concerned when, as a birthday present, my daughter had arranged for me to attend a one day course on wood turning at the home of Graham Turner in Sway. On arrival I was given a warm welcome by Graham and introduced to his wife. He then, in a friendly manner, set about the task of teaching me the skills of wood turning. Throughout he was most patient and gave me the confidence to produce by the end of the day a trinket bowl and a candlestick which was beyond my wildest dreams. I was thrilled to bits as is my wife who could not believe what I brought home. Three cheers for Graham!!"

"Who would have thought that making a clay hare could be so much fun?! I haven't done anything like this since I was at school which is more years ago than I care to remember! Linda is an excellent teacher; she gives clear, step by step instructions that enable you to make something you will be proud of. I will definitely be signing up for another of Linda's courses and would thoroughly recommend them. (The tea and cake were an added treat!)"

"I had some old friends visiting and wanted something for us to do for a few hours. We had so much fun! Sheena is lovely, really friendly and patient when helping and giving instructions. She also lets you the freedom to create your own unique design rather than following a strict template. We were all really happy with what we produced. I will definitely be back again for another go in the new year! Thank you Sheena"

Fiona Burton reviewed: Ceramic moon gazing hares

"I would highly recommend Linda and will be definitely be booking another course. She is a very friendly lady with a great sense of humour. Her home is full of all her wonderful works of art. Linda very patiently showed us step by step, how to make our hares. There were some beautiful examples for us to look at for inspiration. I was impressed by the way Linda enabled us to tap into our creative side as we each gave our hares their own personalities. I was really impressed (and proud) of how good they all looked. I have never done anything like this before, Linda has shown me that you can teach an old dog new tricks!! Oh, and to top it all off, Linda also provides the most gorgeous home made cakes and tarts all washed down with lots of tea and coffee!! Thank you Linda, I had a lovely day."
