John reviewed: Introduction to leatherwork – Belt making workshop

"What an enjoyable day. Amazing views from our workstation, excellent hospitality and a real sense of achievement when we finished our belts. I didn't fully appreciate the work that goes into hand stitching a piece of leather. Clive and Wendy were great hosts and very informative. Whilst the instruction is delivered in a very relaxed style, my wife and I both came away very proud of our work but exhausted. You do have to concentrate to make a good job. I would heartily recommend anyone to give this workshop a go. At the end of the day you walk away with a hand made leather belt which you can brag about to your friends."

Jennifer reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"The perfect introduction to furniture painting. Chris and Celia couldn't have been more helpful, talking us through all the steps from what to look out for (and avoid) when picking furniture to paint, preparation and choosing paint to painting the additional techniques you can use to enhance a piece. We each came away with a finished and completely transformed piece of furniture which will act as a lovely reminder of a lovely day and a confidence boost to start more furniture projects. All this and delicious food and wonderful hospitality. I would thoroughly recommend this workshop."

Interiors @ No. 6 with Tearoom responded:

Mat reviewed: One-to-one mount cutting for your next exhibition

"As a complete novice, Lynne's warm and generous nature removed any nerves that I had before the course. The well stocked studio was comfortable and relaxed and Lynne's teaching was patient yet full of passion and enthusiasm. Leaving the studio at the end of the day with my newly mounted artworks was a very special type of joy. Oh, and the homemade cake, mmm..! I would highly recommend this course."

Eloise Kent reviewed: Training course in upcycling with pallets. An introduction to making furniture with pallets for beginners

"A fantastic course! Taken by Scott, and Sue his wife and Max 'Black Paw' the lab were there too to help. Scott went through how to identify pallets, which you wouldn't think is important but certainly is! We then were taught how to take them apart, how to make a work bench in 5 mins. All the tools used, different types of nails, screws etc. How to use hand tool and power tools. The second day was also interesting, how to wire a plug and lamp, then we turned it into a cool floor lamp and we made a pallet armchair/throne. Scott is very knowledgable, and has great ideas. He explains things well and is patient to everyone's learning speed. Would 100% recommend to everyone!"

Chris Hearson reviewed: Mosaic courses with Joy Sturgess, Scarborough, North Yorkshire

"I chose this course after seeing Joy's work on her website and I enjoyed everything- cutting and shaping the tiles, learning how to show form in mosaic and how colour works. The teaching and support given were excellent."

Shelly Smith reviewed: Mosaic courses with Joy Sturgess, Scarborough, North Yorkshire

"I learnt lots on this course- I like the idea of coming with my own idea and learning how to translate that idea into an achievable project- I made two small mosaic panels based on Shetland knitting patterns. The atmosphere was relaxed and I had a chance to ask about my specific interests and ideas, and to find out about other people's ideas. The course was an ideal length to complete a piece."

Nigel Feerick reviewed: Two day dry stone walling course for beginners in association with Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain

"The course was a birthday gift from my kids and i have have to say a great present. The course is run over two days and is well structured. The instructors are excellent and extremely knowledgable, and as well as giving you the benefit of their expertise they make the course good fun. You get the opportunity to gain hands on experience in the art of drystone walling and I guarantee you will be pleased with the results of your work over the two days."

Amore Brison reviewed: Two day mosaic course with Joy Sturgess in Scarborough, North Yorkshire

"I chose this course because it was close to home and I have done mosaic before and wanted to learn a new technique- I learnt how to work on paper initially and also to take note of which way up to lay the tiles when working in reverse- I enjoyed the great level of individual support given. There is plenty of workspace and choice of materials, and lots of cuppas and biscuits! I am very pleased with the shell mosaic I made using the 'crazy paving' style of laying tiles."

Helen Edwards reviewed: Two day mosaic course with Joy Sturgess in Scarborough, North Yorkshire

"I was interested in this course having already done the direct method on one of Joy's courses. I also have wall areas and I think I would have to use the indirect method to cover. I learnt how to use different types of materials and sizes of tile together and also how to make a mosaic on paper initially. I made a 20cm x 20cm wall mosaic of a humming bird. I find Joy an excellent and very patient teacher, and really enjoyed the interaction with other students and the tutor with lots of different materials, everything provided in an airy comfortable work space. We had time to discuss next steps and other courses in mosaic we would enjoy- I do want to continue. I would like to learn more about the design process and working with found objects."

"Yet again, a wonderful day’s tuition with Lucy. This time learning how to work with Titanium and change its colour. After a couple of test samples, a perfect blue for my design was achieved. The day over so quickly, I leave with lots of inspiration, and can’t wait for my next visit in May."

"I'm interested in crafts and have always wanted to have a go- I found that you need to have patience but Joy is an excellent teacher and i enjoyed being able to translate one of my own photographs of a puffin into a mosaic design. the course inspired me and I would like now to do another mosaic course using the direct method to make a mosaic with found objects."

Peter S reviewed: Two day dry stone walling course for beginners in association with Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain

"I don't usually review things but in this case I'm making an exception. I joined the course because I volunteer for the National Trust in South Cumbria and have helped repair gaps in walls a couple of times. This course is very well organised with clear guidance and plenty of encouragement from friendly, knowledgeable and experienced instructors. Apart from the brief but important "classroom" sessions the two days were spent dismantling a dilapidated section of wall and rebuilding it, working as a team to produce the finished product - a very satisfying experience."

Sam Wakefield reviewed: Conscious Interior Decor; For holistic living

"I attended a 1-2-1 session with Lucy about 2 weeks ago. I couldn't have asked for a better day. My aim was to get an understanding of interior design as a novice to develop a training package for the company I work for. Lucy was fantastic from start to finish, she asked exactly what my needs were and what I wanted to achieve form the day. This was completely bespoke and tailored to what I needed. When I arrived I was greeted with coffee and cake, we then went through the agenda of the day. Ate a fabulous lunch made by Lucy and again more coffee and cake before heading to the to the decorating centre which really helped put everything I had learnt into practice. The majority of the day was learning about colour and how to use it which was great as that was exactly what I had stated I needed. Highly recommend the course, Lucy was amazing, down to earth and ,made me feel very welcome. The day exceeded my expectations."

Dave Tunks reviewed: Furniture making course: Fundamentals of Furniture Making Part 1 (beginner)

"Great course.. Blew away the myths that had been ingrained all those years ago in school woodwork. With the right tools, sharpened, and set up the right way.. and patience, it can be done! Flat and square.... For me, that was a victory. This is a great introductory course. Taking time to understand the materials, and more importantly the tools, and how to set them correctly is as it says... fundamental. Aidan is a great mentor.. his relaxed approach, combined with a huge knowledge, and a clear enthusiasm for his work means its an easy environment to learn in. I'd definitely recommend this as a starting point for anyone that thinks they have an interest in woodworking. It may get expensive with a new workshop fit out :o), but to I'm going back for Fundamentals, part 2 as soon as I can..."
