Description

Join us for a fun and creative one-day workshop where you’ll transform an old tablecloth or other second hand textile into a stylish, fashionable top! This workshop is inspired by the viral trend seen on the Great British Sewing Bee, where participants rework vintage tablecloths into unique, wearable pieces. It’s a perfect opportunity to give new life to a forgotten item in your home and create something beautiful that you’ll want to wear again and again! In this hands-on workshop, we’ll guide you through the process of reworking a tablecloth into a beautiful top. From cutting and placing your pattern pieces to making sure you get the most out of your fabric, we’ll be there every step of the way. What you’ll need to bring: A tablecloth: Bring your own old or vintage tablecloth, or other textile (the bigger, the better!). Choose one with a pattern or texture that speaks to you – we’ll help you make it work. If your tablecloth is small you may need two or another plain fabric to match. Sewing Pattern: Tilly and the Buttons Nell, Oh me Oh My Sadie blouse (as seen in the photos) would both work well. Plain Fabric (Optional): Depending on the size of your tablecloth, you may need to bring a matching plain fabric to complement it. We also offer tablecloth top kits for this workshop which you can purchase from us separately. What you’ll learn: Pattern Placement: How to make the most of your old tablecloth by carefully placing your pattern pieces for the best fit and design. Sewing Techniques: Learn key sewing skills, such as inserting darts, attaching facings, sewing in sleeves and finishing seams to make sure your new top looks professional. Construction Tips: Expert guidance to help you work through any tricky construction steps and finish your top with confidence.

Welcome to Ready Steady Sew, your go-to place for dressmaking, sewing, and creativity. Founded by Rosie, a passionate and experienced sewist, our school is built on the belief that sewing is more than just a skill—it's a way to reconnect with yourself and others. Rosie has been sewing for around 20 years, developing her craft through a deep love of fashion and design. After studying Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion and even interning at Vogue Magazine, Rosie’s passion for sewing and creativity only grew. In 2021, as a response to the isolating challenges of the pandemic, she founded Ready Steady Sew with the goal of bringing people back together. It became a space where people could explore their creativity, build confidence, and make new connections, all while learning to sew. From the beginning, our mission has been simple: to create a safe, welcoming environment for everyone. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, our classes provide the perfect opportunity to step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some time for yourself. Since opening our doors, Ready Steady Sew has grown exponentially. We started with just one class—Beginner Dressmaking—in village halls, and today, we have a beautiful, permanent studio that we’ve called home since September 2024. Our range of classes has expanded, and we now offer a variety of dressmaking courses, as well as new classes being added regularly in subjects such as crochet, quilting, soft furnishings, and more. There’s truly something for everyone! What makes Ready Steady Sew special is the community we’ve built. Our studio is a warm, relaxing, and inspiring place to spend your time, whether you’re with us for a one-day workshop, an evening class, or a weekends worth of classes. We’re set in the idyllic countryside on the border of Wrexham and Shropshire, surrounded by natural beauty, which makes our space the perfect spot to unwind, focus, and get creative. We believe that the clothes you wear have a powerful impact on how you feel about yourself, and we’re especially passionate about helping women feel confident and comfortable in their bodies. By learning to sew, students can create their own wardrobes tailored and fitted to their unique styles and shapes—something we believe plays a huge part in embracing and loving oneself. Our expert teachers are here to guide you every step of the way. They’re not only talented professionals but also friendly and approachable, creating a supportive atmosphere where you can learn at your own pace. Plus, our students are an incredibly welcoming bunch, so you’ll quickly feel like part of the Ready Steady Sew family. Many of our students have formed lasting friendships while learning new skills, making our classes a great place to connect with like-minded people. We’re incredibly excited about the future of Ready Steady Sew, and we’ve got big plans ahead! Whether you're just starting out on your sewing journey or looking to take your skills to the next level, we can’t wait to welcome you and be a part of your creative path. Come join us—let’s create something beautiful together.
