Sprang weaving workshop || FRI June 27th || GU10 3DG
Description
Learn how to weave Sprang with Carey Fleiner, textile historian and experienced ancient textile technology tutor. Join us for an afternoon exploring sprang — an ancient and versatile technique for creating stretchy, net-like fabrics using only warp threads and your fingers. Suitable for beginners as well as curious makers looking to explore the ancient weaving technique. You’ll be working on simple wooden frame looms, which we’ll provide for use during the workshop. Carey will guide you through the basic structure of sprang, how to create balanced tension, and how to weave simple patterns. You’ll leave with a small completed piece (or a work-in-progress you can continue at home), an understanding of how the technique works, and plenty of inspiration for your own creative applications — from little pouches to accessories and wearable art.
