Description
Join us for a six day Raku course set in a beautiful Welsh village within the Snowdonia National Park. Raku is a wonderful and exciting way to fire ceramics outdoors that gives unique and beautiful glaze effects. Raku is an ancient Japanese technique, and in this course Japanese and Celtic influences are blended to create a unique, creative and relaxing experience. A variety of hand building techniques such as coiling, pinch pots, slab building, model making, tile and plaque making will be taught to enable you to make, decorate and glaze your own raku pieces. The course is led by two experienced ceramics teachers and artists: Ursula has many years experience in facilitating ceramic workshops. She has also designed courses integrating mindfulness and creative practices using clay and a variety of other mediums. Sonja is a qualified art and ceramics teacher with many years experience of facilitating workshops for both adults and children within the community. She regularly exhibits her ceramic work in her local area. We aim to create a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment with time built in to the course for individual tuition. The course capacity is for 6 to 8 people. Feedback from a past student, Linda, who attended in 2024: "What an absolutely wonderful raku/holiday experience in a fantastic location with knowledgeable, helpful and encouraging hosts - the most delicious home cooked food. It's a five star review from me". There is an early bird option in the price listing and this runs until the 15th June 2025. If a group would like to book this course from May to August, we can arrange times and date to suit your requirements. Get in touch via the 'message the tutor' button and we can discuss.
